Floral-Scented Solutions for Your Winter Blues: Birchbloggers

Winter weather is still lingering here in New York, and we’re antsy for spring to arrive so there can be an end to all this dry air and parched skin. Our favorite trick to fake blooming season? Indulging in the scents of our favorite flowers with a mini pampering. That’s why we invited our community to a shindig last month with a little help from our friends at Jouer. We gave a few lucky Birchbloggers the opportunity to try the gardenia, jasmine, and honeysuckle-scented Body Butter and Signature Rollerball Fragrance. Here’s what three bloggers had to say about these spring-scented picks:

Butternut Squash and Kale Soup: Birchbox Test Kitchen

You miiiight have noticed by now that Birchbox staffers have an ever-so-slight obsession with food, from colorful (and totally yummy) vegetables to delicious smoothies. Which is why we’ve enlisted our in-house recipe guru Nicole to divulge her kitchen secrets each week, sharing seasonal ingredients, must-have tools, and new cooking methods.

Spring is almost here (hooray!), but the farmers markets are still all about root vegetables and winter greens like potatoes, carrots, kale, and a cornucopia of different squash varieties. Last weekend, I headed to my local market with one goal in mind: I will make soul-warming soup while it’s still chilly outside.

Dry Winter Skin Cured at the Kiehl’s + Birchbox Event

We’ve learned the hard way that even if we invest in a fancy humidifier and drink tons of water, when it comes to dry scaly winter skin the real game changers are a good moisturizer and a kickbutt serum. We know your seasonal complexion woes, which is why we teamed up with Kiehl’s on Tuesday night to host a New Year refresher event at their posh Upper East Side boutique.

From healthy skin consultations to hand massages, the space was packed with women who looked far more glowy on the way out than they did on the way in. Attendees received treatments with some of our favorite products like the Creme de Corps and the Acai Damage-Repairing Serum

And products weren’t the only thing getting a test drive. In honor of this January’s theme #mybestyear, we invited BluePrint Cleanse to set up a juice bar for ultrahealthy taste testing. (Officially, we can’t decide if we love the Pineapple Apple Mint or the Cashew Vanilla Cinnamon Agave flavor more.)

Winter beauty can be tricky: Staving off chapped lips and dry skin while still managing to look cute is no easy feat. Add unexpected weather elements like snow flurries to the mix, and you can be in for major trouble. What’s a girl to do if she doesn’t want to hole up inside all winter? We took our question to a slew of outdoor pros—including an Olympic skier—to learn how they cold-proof their makeup routine. Read all about it in this month’s issue of the Birchbox Magazine

3 Easy Winter-to-Spring Makeup Tips from Jouer

We fell hard for Natalie Alcala last fall, when the L.A.-based writer and blogger spent a week guest blogging for us. In fact, we loved her posts so much that we asked her to be a contributing editor. In addition to blogging for us once a week, she’ll also be writing for the Birchbox Magazine and keeping us up to speed on all things fashion, beauty, and fun.

Spring officially begins on March 20, which means there’s only a few weeks of heavy layering left before we can break out those floral sundresses. As you clean out your closet to make room for the warmer season’s styles, it’s also time to start thinking about making some key changes to your makeup routine so you’re not left out in the cold, beauty-wise. After all, turning up to a colorful picnic party with a dull, pale face can be a major buzzkill.

To help us all transition our looks from winter to spring, I checked in with Christina Zilber, the founder of celebrated cosmetics brand Jouer to offer up three super quick fixes.
