Spoiler alert: Some of our members will be receiving exclusive lace-printed Twistbands in their September Birchboxes!
As much as we love summer, fall fashion is so much more fun. Load of layers, cozy sweaters, kicky boots—there are too many options. One trend we’re particularly excited about this season is lace. We love the girly texture so much that we teamed up with Twistband to create a custom collection of lace-printed hair ties. We’ll be sampling these ultra-feminine hair ties to many of our members this month—get excited!
The exclusive set of six hair ties is the perfect way to add the ultra-feminine fabric to your wardrobe. When we created the collection we took color inspiration from the Fall 2012 catwalks—shows like Chanel, Diane von Furstenberg, and Lanvin. We’ve all been there: you get to the airport excited to start your trip and then 6, 8, 10 hours later you step off the plane disheveled, tired-looking, and dehydrated. But long flights don’t have to be miserable. If you’re going on vacation in the next few months (or even if you’re just dreaming about the beach) you’ll want to brush up on our tips for staying happy and healthy throughout the flight. Take a few precautions, and you’ll step off the plane looking just as fresh and chic as when you arrived at the airport.
Birchbox’s copywriter, Mai, is growing her hair out and she’s been trying to find new tools to hold back her hair while she adjusts to her new length. She recently discovered these extra-bright Twistband headbands, and has been brilliantly devising fun ways to wear them. For example, this princess-like style (above), where she actually placed two Twistbands around the crown of her head, and then gently wove small pieces into both to create a lovely half-up look.

Left: Our version of the looped pony on Charlie. Right: Carolina Herrera spring 2012.
The ponytail gets a lot of flack from hair sophisticates—it’s been accused of being boring, too tomboyish, and a sign of not trying hard enough. But designers are breathing new life into this classic style, like Carolina Herrera who showed some pretty looped ponys during her spring 2012 show. We were so inspired, we decided to break down this style step by step (fair warning: it works best on long-haired ladies with no choppy layers). Click through for the tutorial!
We’re guilty of sticking with the same hair cut for years—if it’s not broke, why fix it?—but that can be a little boring. But not everyone has our issue. Paulina, one of our amazing operations associates, is always eyeing new cuts and styles. She’ll be sharing her tress inspiration and tips every other week here via her Hairistocracy column.
Summer vacations are about to kick-off and in less than a week, I’m boarding a cruise for a week-long tour through Mexico and the Caribbean! Obviously, I can’t help but muse over the hair products and accessories I’m going to pack to make sure I’ve got gorgeous hair from day one.
Signing onto Free People’s blog, BLDG 25, yesterday, I stumbled over a sneak peek of their May catalog, which was shot in Miami. This is totally the look I’m going for.
If you’ve mastered the French braid already, it’s time to move on to something a bit more advanced. Watch this week’s tutorial, where Mollie shows us how to get a Dutch braid. If it looks familiar it’s probably because we’re drawing inspiration from Katniss Everdeen, the awesome heroine of the Hunger Games.

We love babies around here (who doesn’t?) and a few months ago were thrilled to find out that our Production Manager Alicia was expecting a little peanut herself. The months have certainly flown by and baby will finally be arriving next week! Alicia has her hospital bag packed and ready to go at a moment’s notice. Since she’s working from home until the big day, we asked her to send us a picture of what she’s bringing. Here’s what she’s bringing so she’s comfortable and prepared for her new baby boy:
The moment you start reading Alex Yeske’s dreams + jeans blog, you know one thing for sure: the girl has excellent taste. Musing on everything from fashion to beauty to design, the recent Syracuse grad has a knack for spotting pretty things — a skill that no doubt serves her well in her day job as a graphic designer for Madewell. This week, we’re lucky enough to have her guest blogging for us about everything from her beauty must-haves to how to get the perfect blow dry.
As I mentioned in Monday’s post, I absolutely adore testing out new products. I always have a running list of things I want to try and these are at the top of it:
