Broadway stars may have a reputation of being a bit dramatic but Tony Best Actress nominee, Laura Osnes, is anything but. I met Osnes this past week at an event in her honor, hosted by Kristan Serafino of SerafinoSays and Kimmie Smith of KittenLounge at James Bentley Salon, and she couldn’t have been sweeter. In addition to learning about the role Osnes is nominated for (Bonnie in Bonnie & Clyde), I had the chance to pick the star’s brain about her next project, her skincare routine, and surprising backstage makeup secrets.

As big musical theater geeks (and big Neil Patrick Harris fans), we’re definitely tuning in to the Tony Awards on Sunday. And now we have a reason to bust out our laptops, too: Nexxus, the salon haircare brand, is teaming up with the Tony Awards to share red carpet coverage and backstage peeks via Facebook and Twitter. As WWD reports, this is the first year the theatre awards show will have an official beauty sponsor, and we’re excited to see what will result from the multimedia collaboration. Among the highlights: Melissa Meyers of the PageDaily.com will be sharing behind-the-scenes beauty and fashion tips. And stay tuned for our own Q & A with Best Actress nominee Laura Osnes of the hit production Bonnie & Clyde!

Once a week, Birchbox’s resident yoga and men’s product expert, Eric, will give us girls some insight into his world in You’ve Got Male. Whether he’s giving his expertise on skincare (boys need advice, too!) or highlighting his new favorite grooming trend, this guy has got taste—so we’re lucky he’s on staff and willing to share.
Although my usual function is to write about men’s grooming for You’ve Got Male, I decided to take a quick departure this week and recount a very exciting experience I had on Sunday evening. About a month ago, my best friend, Nikki M. James, was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for her incredible job in the riotous The Book of Mormon. The awards ceremony was Sunday night and I was thrilled to be one of her guests at the ceremony. Here’s the really good news: SHE WON! It was a night I will never forget. It was filled with anxiety, laughter, smiles, and tears. Plus, during her acceptance speech, there was a reaction shot of me in the audience—my network TV debut! I had a blast helping her get ready in her hotel suite. Here are some of the highlights.
The Outfit: She wore a stunning strapless red gown by Giambattista Valli and black crystal encrusted pumps by Christian Louboutin. Diamond bracelet, ring, and earrings from Damiani and clutch by Kotur. Could you just die?
The Makeup: The amazing Kyra Dorman created her sophisticated, sexy, and fresh look. She used some Birchbox faves—three shades of Stila Eye Shadow to create the smokey eye and NARS Blush in Orgasm. (We have the Illuminator!)
Fun tip: For the shimmery shadows, Kyra used Stila #9 All Over Blend Brush to apply the color lightly and avoid a metallic look.
Above are some photos from before, during, and after the process. Stunning no matter what, she’s a true star! Make sure to remember her name…and run, don’t walk to see The Book of Mormon on Broadway.
