Reading List: Beauty Routines, NYFW Roundups, Love Notes, and More

New York Fashion Week may be over but the roundups are still in full effect. We’ll be clicking through them all weekend. Catch a few of our favorites below, as well as a poll about your at-home beauty routine and a fun new way to send a note.

  • If you’re like us, you probably attempt at-home beauty treatments fairly frequently. But, like us, you might not be trying them at the best times. Whether it’s after one too many cocktails or before an important event at work, we’re sure there are more responsible ways to get pretty quickly. Take the poll to find out when most of us decide to tackle beauty treatments. [The Gloss]
  • After an exhausting New York Fashion Week, we’re ready to get back to our regular schedule for the next six months or so. But, we couldn’t close the week without at least a few more roundups. We love this one of the prettiest pictures from the week. [Refinery 29]
  • On the same note, this roundup of the most outrageous moments of the week has us wondering how we could have missed all these happenings! [Stylelist]

Is Amber Rose’s New Face Tattoo Real?: TheGloss

TheGloss is one of our daily must-reads (right up there with the NY Times). We love the site’s witty approach to style and its smart and irreverent voice. We like the writing so much, in fact, that we’ll be featuring one of their posts each week here on the Birchbox blog.

“Model and aspiring singer” Amber Rose appears to have gotten a face tattoo. Let’s take our time to savor that: Face. Tattoo. She was photographed sporting the regrettable decision in Miami over the weekend, alongside boyfriend Wiz Khalifa. Since Rose is famous at this point (essentially) for stunts like this, we’re thinking there’s a 50% chance the tattoo is real.

Fun fact, I really only know how to do 2 hairstyles! When I don’t hot-roll my hair I generally braid it and twist it up. Sometimes because I want to look nice for a party, sometimes because I do not have 10 spare minutes in the morning. Man, since we’re doing this all week, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are really going to suck. But on the upside, if you only know how to do these two hairstyles, people will think you know a lot about hair and ask you questions.

You know how celebrities love to spill their beauty secrets, even when they have no idea what they’re talking about? Scarlett Johansson is the latest famous to engage in this particular kind of PR, telling Style.com that one of her favorite things to do for her skin is an all-natural honey facial.

“I use Manuka honey,” she said. “You just warm your face so that your pores are open (you can steam your face right after getting out of the shower), and then you just take a spoon and apply the honey directly to your face and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. It really adds an amazing glow and your skin is so soft afterwards. It pulls out the impurities.”

Well – if it’s good enough for Scarlett, it’s good enough for me.

What happens when you wear nail polish on your lips? Besides looking pretty, obviously?

After Daphne Guinness “experimented” by applying her new MAC nail polish to her lips, celebrity make-up artist Rachel Wood noted, ‘As far as nail polish goes…I’m not sold on using it for the lips.  First of all most polishes contain fomaldehyde, not a substance I would suggest to ingest.’

It’s never a good idea to crash diet…but they’re still popular, especially right around the holidays, when people are looking to ditch a few vanity pounds as quickly as possible. We’re holding Crash Diet Week in honor of all the stupid, misguided things we’ve done to lose weight, but here’s 10 of the very stupidest: like inviting a tapeworm inside you, chomping cotton balls dipped in orange juice or getting your ears stapled.
