Birchbox Staffers Share 5 of Their Fave Mascaras

Mascara is one of those products that’s a total game-changer. Great formulas can immediately make your eyes appear brighter, wider and more awake without leaving behind telltale smudges—and for that reason it’s one of the must-have products on every Birchbox staffer’s desk. But eyelashes come in all varieties—some are short and thick, some are long and thin—which is why we asked five team members with different lash types to tell us their top mascara picks.

Normal: IT Cosmetics Hello Lashes

"I’ve recently fallen in love with the It Cosmetics formula. It doesn’t smudge or flake and a few coats makes my lashes full and thick. Also, the lash ball at the tip of the wand makes getting my lower lashes so much easier." —Meredith Stebbins, Editor and Senior Manager, Traffic & Trends

5 Page-Turning Beach Reads: Intern Diaries
You might recall the Birchbox Intern Diaries with former editorial intern Charisse. Now our summer interns Julia, Katrina, and Geraldine are heroically taking over the series (though without a camera). For the next month, every Thursday they’ll be sharing their discoveries from around the Birchbox office. Today, they’re taking a peek inside our staffers’ beach bags.
Summer is the perfect time to catch up on the reading you’ve been meaning to get to, so we asked the Birchbox staffers to tell us which books they’re bringing along for some seaside lounging. They’re quite the bookworms and love everything from comedy to science fiction. If you need some great recommendations, here’s what they’re currently reading:
1. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling
“It’s like reading Tina Fey’s little sister’s book. It made me laugh out loud on the subway and I probably scared a few people.” —Sandra C., Marketing
2. An Invisible Thread: The True Story of an 11-Year Old Panhandler, a Busy Sales Executive, and an Unlikely Meeting with Destiny by Laura Schroff & Alex Tresniowski
“Even though it’s about a really heavy topic, it’s a light, seamless read that’s really inspiring. Super engaging and it makes you see the silver lining in everything.” —Elizabeth P., Finance
3. Sleepwalk with Me: And Other Painfully True Stories by Mike Birbiglia
“My boyfriend checked it out of the library but then I stole it. I like reading books by comedians, but I normally read female ones so this was new for me—he’s a really funny guy.” —Whitney T., Operations
4. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway
“It’s a classic. I’d never read it before and it was on my sister’s kindle so I decided to start. I like it because it’s an easy read and still relevant.” - Kelsey S., Creative
5. Alif The Unseen by G. Willow Wilson
“This book is so weird—it’s all about this hacker in the Middle East but then there’s this whole ‘Game of Thrones’ sci-fi part to it. Now that I think about it, it’s not really a beach read…”  —Danielle P., People & Culture
Which books have you been saving for lazy summer days?

New Things Our Staffers Love!

Birchbox’s internal policy: Everything we sell, we test first. This month, we have a ton of amazing new offerings up on the site, which means that each and every product has gotten the official Birchbox seal of approval from (at least one) of our staffers. Some we’re so excited about these new finds, we decided to share.

Pangea Organics Facial Cream: “The texture is light, but don’t be fooled, this is a deeply nourishing moisturizer that you can really feel sink in and hydrate your skin.” —Meredith Stebbins, editor and content strategy manager

Dr. Dennis Gross All-in-One Cleanser with Toner: "The solution leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean and saves me a step in my beauty routine by having the toner already built in."—Alta Sparling, brand relationship manager

AHAVA Dermud Enriched Intensive Foot Cream: "I’ve never been a huge foot cream person, but recently I noticed these flakes of dead skin left behind on my yoga mat from my feet—ew! This super-rich formula came to the rescue and had me hooked instantly." —Eric Neher, brand and merchandising manager

Oscar Blandi Salon Glaze: “I use this Salon Glaze after my shampoo and conditioner when I want my hair to look extra special. It keeps my highlights from looking dull or flat.” —Lorelei Orfeo, assistant editor

Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Tender: "I love this gloss because it moisturizes and adds tons of shine—and the sunny coral shade just screams spring."— Mollie Chen, director of content
