At the end of a long week (or in the middle of a particularly tough week), there’s nothing more relaxing than a warm soak in the tub. Lucky for us, the gents of Birchbox Man have rounded up 7 products and practices to transform a utilitarian loo into a sumptuous spa—or at least a significantly more relaxing place to get your pamper on.

Every weekend, I look forward to going back home to semi-upstate New York and winding down after a long week in NYC. While I love the hustle and bustle of the city, nothing beats returning to crisp air, green grass, and the sound of nature. The two days I’m home I take my R&R very seriously. I know I don’t have the time or money (the woes of a college student) to spend at a spa so my pampering days are spent in the comfort of home. Get ready to light some candles and put on some soothing music because here are a few of my favorite ways to relax and recharge for any day of the week!
1. How To: Brew the Perfect Cup of Tea
As a huge tea connoisseur, the very first thing I do to unwind is fix myself a cup of tea. This video shows me how to brew the perfect cup since there’s nothing worse than ending up with bitter or weak tea.

Last night, we teamed up with one of our favorite brands, Caudalie, to throw an awesome event for our New York subscribers. Tri-borough area Birchboxers had the chance to score eye treatments, head and arm massages, and oxygen infusion facials—plus, an opportunity to meet the company’s founders, Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas—at Caudalie’s Vinotherapie Spa in the Plaza Hotel.
We were excited to see so many gorgeous members in attendance (ladies, you make up one stylish crowd)! But the extra-exciting moment for us editors was sitting down with Mathilde and Bertrand to find out their favorite summer beauty trends, and the product that they just can’t stop talking about. Click through to see pics from the event and find out about Caudalie’s hottest new product!
New York already has its fair share of outstanding bathhouses—from the old school Russian & Turkish Baths in the East Village to the near-mythical Spa Castle in Queens. Or so I’ve heard. To tell you the truth, I’ve steered clear of these institutions in the past because the idea of communal spa-going has always conjured up images of bumping knees with naked strangers in overcrowded Jacuzzis. But I think I’ve finally found a bathhouse that satisfies my desire for semi-privacy: the AIRE Ancient Baths, a candelit haven that opened in a converted Tribeca textile factory last month.
In my former life, I did a lot of spa reviews. (Tough gig, I know.) In the space of a few years, I went from being a newbie who had never had a facial to a veteran who could easily parse the differences between thalassotherapy and hot stone massage. During that time, traditional Ayurvedic spa therapies became a huge trend, both in luxe Indian retreats and much closer to home. What I love about these types of treatments and products is that they take a holistic approach to healing, focusing not just on topical ingredients but also on how your diet, exercise, and mental state affect how you look and feel.
Some guys use whatever soap is in the shower. Others carefully consider the field and select the best option. Eric, our resident grooming god, falls in the latter camp. Once a week, he’ll be sharing his product findings and lifestyle tips.
Okay, so maybe it wasn’t a full spa day, but I did spend a lovely afternoon with the ladies behind Olìe Biologique at their recent trunk show at Equinox. This brand (pronounced “Oh-lee Bee-oh-loh-jeek”) is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
Between the party-hopping, the nonstop feasting, and the daylong shopping expeditions, it’s near impossible to find time to unwind during the holidays. If you’re in New York this Saturday, stop by the Birchbox Discovery Shop in Chelsea for some much-needed R & R with the talented spa therapists from Caudalie.
