In honor of our Social Media Week and our panel tomorrow, we’re blogging about some of our favorite social media sites, tips, and tricks. So far we’ve covered Pinterest, Instagram, and Mashable. Today we are going to tackle “the blog.” Starting a blog might seem intimidating but it’s actually very easy, and lots of fun.
Just like you turn to Birchbox for expert beauty tips and tricks, we depend on Mashable to keep us up to date on all things social media. This site covers everything from Facebook privacy updates to how quickly the news of Whitney Houston’s death spread on Twitter.

Today, as part of our Let’s Get Social series, we’ll introduce you to Mashable and tell you how to get the most out of it.
Just can’t get enough of Birchbox? You’re in luck. Now in addition to following @birchbox on Twitter (product advice! nail art! gratuitous cupcake pics!), you can also follow members of our all-star team! We’ve assembled this handy list of our most tweet-tastic staffers: Team Birchbox.
What can you expect from the Birchbox crew? Here’s a spoiler:
Beauty and fashion advice: @Rachelista

Nail pics and beauty news: @LoreleiO

Restaurant deets and plenty of food pics: @Molliechen

Tech and social media down-low: @Racheljo

General wisdom and deep thoughts: @jeremecorrado

Oh, how we love Facebook here at Birchbox. Not only is it the easiest way for us to stalk all our frenemies, it’s also an ideal place for us to connect with our members and share everything that’s happening over at Birchbox HQ.
For better or for worse, Facebook is always introducing new features and last month they released one that we just love. You’re now able to tag your favorite pages, aka Birchbox, in any of your photos, and they’ll show up on our photos tab. Don’t worry— privacy settings still apply.
We love seeing Birchboxes out in the real world and especially love seeing our members use the products in our shop. Go ahead and snap a pic to share next time you’re opening your Birchbox or using your favorite Birchbox products!

P.S. A major new redesign is rumored to be coming to Facebook soon! Are you excited or anxious?
Are your photos currently lacking a Birchbox? Let’s change that! Sign up today to get the July box, curated by Cynthia Rowley!

We’ve totally caught the Foursquare bug. Between Lorelei and Matt H.’s daily battle for the mayorship of Birchbox HQ and Mollie’s newfound addiction to her Foursquare iPhone app, we’re all about checking in and earning badges. We’ve also got plenty of intel to share, which is why we’ve launched our own Foursquare page. You’ll find tips on the city’s best beauty hideaways, grooming gurus, and niche-y boutiques, not to mention a fair share of cocktail and restaurant advice (what can we say — we like the good things in life). We’ll be adding tons of intel in the coming weeks, so start following us now!
While Hayley and Katia were running to meetings with amazing beauty brands (hello NARS!), I popped into ThinkSocial’s #Promise conference. The #Promise, part of Internet Week, brought together tons of smart people to talk about social responsibility, both with respect to corporations and individuals. It was thought-provoking, interesting, and inspiring. I dashed off a stream-of-consciousness email to Hayley and Katia during one of the presentations, punctuated with phrases like “core mission,” “do good and be good,” and “integrity! empowerment!” I’m excited to think about ways in which we can marshal our social media powers, our communication channels, and our energy to not just make people pretty and happy, but to also have a positive impact.
A few of my takeaways:
Add it to the reading list: Douglas Rushkoff’s books, especially his latest, Life, Inc.
Website list: Check out Crowdrise, Edward Norton’s new media meets fundraising website, Hunch, Caterina Fake’s website, and Howcast, the best how-to vids on the web.
Girl crush: Caterina Fake, founder of Flickr and Hunch. “I’m an extrovert and a homebody so I was an early adopter of social networking.” Fabulous, funny, smart. Love her.
Award for beating my expectations: GE Global Marketing Director Linda Boff talked about their healthymagination campaign and other initiatives and was candid, interesting, and made good use of videos - especially this hysterical yoga clip.
