How to Avoid Wasting Money on The Wrong Makeup
We all know that finding the perfect complexion-flattering shade is the crux of every makeup shopping experience. I’m part redhead, which means my skin (depending on the season) fluctuates from freckly tan, to medium-fair, to ghostly white. You see my struggle here. But even gals with enviable, even-toned skin share this dilemma. According to a recent London-based study, most women spend more than $100 a year on the wrong shades of makeup. That amount breaks down to about 6.2 products per woman and includes anything from foundation to concealer and bronzer to blush. To make matters worse, when women do finally realize the flaw in their beauty purchase, most choose not to return the product. Although it’s true most stores won’t take back a used item (FYI, Birchbox does!), one easy way to prevent a makeup buying blunder is to consult Find Your Shade, our new tool that uses real Birchbox staffers and members to help you select the ideal products for your complexion. Once you discover your skin twin, check out her go-to products and then be sure to update your beauty profile (if you’re a subscriber).

Contemporary design nuts will love of-the-moment bakeries Turris (various locations) and Crustö (Mercat de la libertat, 80-81), while the more traditional-minded should make a beeline for Forn Mistral (Avinguda de Mistral, 20) to find the city’s flakiest croissants, and Baluard (38-40 baixos, Barceloneta) for whole-grain, spelt, and dried-fruit varieties. No visit to Barcelona is complete without some serious tapas time, and you’ll find the best options in the old fishermen’s waterfront neighborhood of Barceloneta—in particular, Jai-Ca (Carrer Ginebra) and La Cova Fumada (Carrer Baluard, 56; order the bombas). For a slightly more upscale destination, try El Vaso de Oro (Calle de Balboa) and their filet of beef tapas accompanied by a caña (draft beer).

5 Questions For…Shoe Brand CHROMATICgallerie

We’re not sure if it’s all the weddings we went to this summer, but lately it feels impossible to find shoes in a specific color and heel height. Luckily, CHROMATICgallerie is the answer to our shoe-searching prayers. Not only is the brand dedicated to bringing you customized shoes in every hue and style, but they’re also all about comfort. We sat down with the company’s founder, Chris Luhur, to get the scoop.

1. Where did the idea for Chromatic come from?

Everyone has different feet, not just in terms of length, but also width and shape. When shoes don’t fit right, they hurt and you wear them less. And have you ever put together an outfit and thought that a certain color shoe would just make the outfit but struggled to find that color?

CHROMATICgallerie was created to tackle those two problems of fit and color. We wanted to create a shoe that came in different fits and different colors to suit your feet and your mood.

2. What’s the price range for a pair of customized pumps?

All of our shoes are $88, regardless of heel height, size, width, color, or material. We like to keep things simple and encourage people to have fun, and be adventurous—especially with colors!
