Oh, prom. Not so long ago, many a Birchbox staffer went all out for that big night, and of course we took tons of photos to commemorate the epic event. In honor of prom season, we knew we had to share these pictures with you—even if we’re cringing (or laughing) at the choices our younger selves made. The hair! Those dresses! That glittery eyeshadow… Read on for a peek at some of our, err, favorite memories from high school.

"This feels like a lifetime ago! Thankfully I went for classic hair and makeup, so I don’t have any regrets about that. And, in fact, I still have this dress. It’s a deep navy raw silk Ralph Lauren gown with a bright emerald lining. I’ll never wear it again, but I love it too much to give it away.”
For most of us, prom night is a fuzzy memory marred by not-so-subtle makeup, questionable dresses, and awkward boutonnière-clad dates. A Prom-Inspired Makeup Tutorial: Birchbox Intern Diaries
We’ve been taking a walk down memory lane here in the Birchbox office, recalling the best and worst looks from that momentous event—Prom. So for the latest installment of Birchbox Intern Diaries, I decided to recreate the makeup I wore for that special high school night. Instead of doing a smoky eye with silver shimmer (it was so popular back then), I updated the look with a pretty pop of lavender and added a bit of drama. Watch the video above to see how to get this spring-ready style that’s perfect for The Big Dance.
And before you go, tell us all about the look you’ll be wearing to prom (or the look you wore) in the comments below!

For most of us, prom night is a fuzzy memory marred by not-so-subtle makeup, questionable dress choices, and awkward boutonnière-clad dates. Luckily, we’ve learned from the error of our glittery ways and are here to offer some fresh ideas and a little hair guidance. First and foremost—don’t think that you have to head to a salon for a great updo or celeb-worthy waves. You can definitely score a prom-ready look at home all on your own.
That being said—here are 10 chic and easy looks that you can do to make your night special and timeless:

In the last few weeks, a strange new trend has emerged in high schools across the country. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that young women have been wearing particularly risqué dresses to prom and because of that, school administrations across the country have started cracking down with serious dress codes, using PowerPoint presentations to make it clear what’s appropriate—and, more significantly, what isn’t.
Prom season is right around the corner, and here at Birchbox we’ve been reminiscing about our own prom experiences. The consensus? We’ll always laugh about the semi-regrettable styling decisions we made as teens: the streaky self-tans, the crunchy curls, and (most memorably) the pouffy princess dresses that wouldn’t look out of place on Toddlers & Tiaras.
