The Chop: Jennifer Lawrence’s New Haircut

image

Call it a short hair epidemic! Today we learned that Jennifer Lawrence (or, as you may know her, Katniss Everdeen) has joined the likes of Pamela Anderson and Jennifer Hudson with a new pixie cut… to mixed reviews. While we love her shorter ‘do she’s been catching some shade from commentators and bloggers alike. Where do you stand?

Love it or hate it, short hair can be harder to maintain than longer hair—it requires frequent trims, and a bad hair day can’t be swept into a topknot and simply forgotten. If we were J. Law we’d stock up on Number 4’s Non-Aerosol Hairspray to tame flyaways and Serge Normant’s Mega Revive Dry Shampoo for body and texture.

The Most Influential Hair Cuts of 2011: Justin Bieber and Emma Watson

Each year, there seems to be one celebrity haircut that stands out among the rest. This year, according to the Wall Street Journal, it was actually two: Emma Watson’s pixie and Justin Bieber’s “swish” style. The publication has deemed that these were the two most influential cuts of 2011 as measured by the volume of requests at hair salons and the number of Google searches.

Shocking New Look: Vanessa Hudgens Chops Off All Her Hair

When I see a pixie cut, I automatically think of timeless beauty Audrey Hepburn. Emma Watson absolutely makes short hair work too, but now another young starlet has taken her shot at it—Vanessa Hudgens.

True, she did originally chop off her long locks for her homeless girl role in Gimme Shelter, but at the time she admitted to Access Hollywood that it made her feel like a soccer mom. However the actress must have had a change of heart on Tuesday, when she donned an even shorter cut at the L.A. premiere of Captain America.

I admire her courage, but we aren’t the biggest fans of this new look, and I’m hoping she stays away from scissors for quite some time. Comment and let us know what you think about the switch!

Stylist Jeff Chastain’s Short Hair Survival Guide

Stylist Jeff Chastain in all his tattooed glory.

As a long hair devotee, I never realized the trials of dealing with short locks. (Who knew being able to put your hair in a ponytail was such a blessing?) But as my good friend Geraldine tells me again and again, short hair is much harder to style, despite, you know, its shortness. After hearing her complain about bedhead, untameable cowlicks, and other issues, I finally took her to the master: stylist Jeff Chastain. He was full of advice — so much so that we’re filming a video with him this week (you’ll see it next month!). Here are some of his best short hair tips.
