Once the weather finally warms up, it’s time to reevaluate our beauty routines for a new season. We’re putting away our full-coverage foundations and pulling out a higher SPF! Rising temperatures can also lead to melty makeup face (never cute) so take a look at our favorite outdoor beauty essentials in the video below. Phew, this weekend was a scorcher! For many of us, warmer weather (not to mention humidity) means shiny skin. Even though we’re all for the dewy, natural look, there are times when you just need to be matte. Luckily, a few easy steps will take care of shine in a snap. Watch the video above and learn how!
As much as I love the summer heat, whenever the temperatures warm up I always get anxious about how oily my normally-combination skin gets. Think extra-shiny all the time, with an extra dose of sweat while rushing on my morning commute or, honestly, whenever I spend an extended period in the sun. It’s particularly frustrating when I have to show up anywhere looking polished, which is why I was so glad to find a primer from one of my favorite brands: Peter Thomas Roth. (Fun fact: PTR was one of the first beauty brands I was introduced to, by a friend, in middle school!)
Based in Washington D.C., Ayren Jackson-Cannady is so savvy that we wished she lived closer to NYC so that we could swap products with her. This beauty writer knows what’s up (she’s written for Fitness, Glamour, and Gloss Daily) and we’re excited to have her sharing her know-how and multi-culti beauty expertise as a contributing editor.

The gorgeous-beyond-gorgeous Miss Rhode Island, Olivia Culpo, snagged the Miss USA title over the weekend. But, Miss USA’s first runner-up, Nana Meriwether is the contestant who really blew my mind. Not only is she extra tall with flawless skin (I’m willing to bet she uses something from Peter Thomas Roth) and gorgeous hair, but she’s also a textbook example of an overachiever.
Let me go down the list for you: The 27-year-old received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and studied as a post-baccalaureate pre-med student at the University of Southern California. She’s currently applying to medical schools, but while at UCLA, she played volleyball and became a two-time NCAA All-American. She then played volleyball professionally in Puerto Rico and she co-founded a nonprofit, The Meriwether Foundation, which operates in five countries in southern Africa. (Plus, as a little girl she went to the Sidwell Friends School, the same school President Obama’s daughters attend, FYI). When she has time to breathe—I do not know.
Besides Tumblr, one of our favorite places to hang out online is Twitter. While chilling in the twitterverse the other day, we came across a tweet from Amanda Lucas that caught our attention. Amanda lives in Hyde Park, New York and her sister lives in South Bend, Indiana. Each month the Lucas sisters open their Birchboxes together on Skype! This is obviously the cutest thing we’ve ever heard so we had to get in touch and learn more:
