As much as we love nail art, we’re better at admiring designs than coming up with them ourselves. That’s why we’ve enlisted Anna Norman, the smarty pants behind Glitter, She Wrote, to be a regular contributor. Every Monday, she’ll be sharing her latest lacquer inspiration—you won’t be satisfied with plain ol’ polish again.
If you’re like much of the country (and world!), you’re a little Olympics-crazy right now. All eyes were on the women’s gymnastics competition, and the super-human flips and raw emotion made it hard to look away. After gold medalist Gabby Douglas captured our collective hearts, I knew I had to take inspiration from the medal stand and put it onto my nails. A lot of the Olympic-themed manis I’ve been seeing require serious nail art skill (5 Olympic rings painted on your pinky finger, anyone?), so I’m showing my Team USA pride this week with a simple gold medal mani that anyone can totally pull off—no Olympic-level skills required.

If you’re like us, you’ve been avidly watching the Olympics every night (or live streaming during the day) to watch Team USA do their fighting best in London. But, as Birchbox man editor Martin said this morning, “Guys, there is something happening with nail art at the Olympics. What is going on?!”
From swimmer Missy Franklin to kayak slalom-er Caroline Queen, it seems like every female Olympian has been sporting insane mani pedis in patriotic colors. Well, we finally found out why all this awesomeness is happening—and it’s genius.

We’re loving the Olympics so far—so many exciting events and tons of American pride. (Ryan Lochte, even though the 400-meter relay didn’t go so well, we still think you’re the bees knees.) But as serious makeup enthusiasts, our attention was totally diverted when we saw this amazing eye look from Brazilian gymnast Daniele Hypolito.
