If you haven’t noticed, we’ve added a ton of fabulous new products to our shop this month. And our staffers are finding some new staple items to add to their beauty routines. Here our some of our favorite products — get shopping!
blinc Mascara: “I love how the mascara tubes and slides off easily with water and a light touch — it makes cleanup so easy! I hate the greasy feeling eyemakeup remover leaves behind, so this was a huge win for me.” —Jenna
TOCCA Eau de Parfum, Stella: “I adore everything about this perfume, from the inspiration — a mischievous Italian heartbreaker — to the sweetly feminine scent. Plus, the etched glass bottle feels both vintage and chic, and is a nice addition to my growing fragrance collection.” —Mollie
Deborah Lippman Lara’s Theme: “I’m pretty much obsessed with this color — I keep reapplying week after week. It’s so perfect for summer and makes it so nice to look down at my nails! I’ll probably keep using it into the fall as well. It goes on so easily and never look clumpy or streaky.” —Rachel
Anastasia Beverly Hills After Tweeze Cream: “Even though I wish I could always wax my eyebrows, my bank account doesn’t feel the same way. When I tweeze, I always try to put lotion on right after, but too frequently it burns or doesn’t soothe the way I want it to. This really does the job and it’s adorable pink tube is a lovely plus.” —Kara
Shaveworks™ The Cool Fix™ Targeted Gel Lotion: “I tend to get random ingrowns and all of a sudden my beach vacation was upon me. What to do? Within hours of putting on The Cool Fix, redness and swelling was almost gone. Plus, it feels cool as it goes on!” —Eric
Number 4 Lumiere d’hiver Reconstructing Masque: “This super-hydrating leave-in treatment saves my hair between cuts when my ends are especially dry and brittle.” —Meredith
Twistband Hair Ties: “Talk about a multi-tasker — more often than not, these are stacked on my wrist as bracelets instead of holding up my hair. But wherever they are, I don’t think I’ve gone a day without one since they first landed on my desk.”—Molly

While I’m waiting for my lashes to grow (see: RevitaLash grow-off), I’ve been using YSL’s newish mascara, which is designed to make you look like you’re wearing fake lashes (in the ‘wow, they’re so dramatic’ way, not the ‘wow, you look like a transvestite’ way). The brush is kind of ragged and rough so that instead of just sweeping your lashes to make them longer, it grabs and coats each lash with formula to make them fatter, darker, and longer at the same time. The formula is on the drier side, which is great if you curl your eyelashes — it acts as a fixer to help hold the pretty curve. But the best part about this mascara is that it’s rich enough to just use one coat!

Tonight is our Birchbox launch party (yay!), which is going to be fabulous. But, with all the planning and, you know, working at a startup, none of us are feeling particularly fab. Happily my friend Nicole at Guerlain sent over their new Midnight Star Extraordinary Radiance Treatment, which seems to be tailor-made for girls who work hard and play hard. The treatment is essentially a combo serum and primer that is designed to perk up, prettify, tone, and generally rescue tired skin. It comes in handy one-dose ampules that are great for throwing in a makeup bag or carry on. All you do is twist off the top of the ampule and rub it all over clean or moisturized skin — the gel-like serum dries smooth and matte and gives skin a slightly pearlized finish. The treatment also claims to have detoxifying ingredients that mitigate the effects of too much partying — this sounds too good to be true but I’m willing to test it out. Anything for skincare science, right? Either way, these little guys are my new best friends.
Welcome to the first edition of: What’s on Mollie’s Desk? Or, as I like to call it: Gah! Clutter! I’m currently writing about orange lipsticks, stellar skincare, and sweet holiday gifts. Some star products I’ve come across recently:
Blow’s Blow Up Thickening Mist: This light spray basically fattens up your hair (one case where bulk is better!) to make it look full and voomy (Hayley’s fave word). I have naturally straight, fairly silky hair that doesn’t do much — until I use this spray. I spritz all over, give it a quick blast with the dryer, and all of a sudden I have myself a ‘do.
Guerlain Kiss Kiss Liplift: As a recent lipstick convert, I am now dealing with issues like crackage, creasing, and feathering. So complicated! The solution to all those issues is a fantabulous lip primer. Guerlain’s version is a thick, slightly tacky formula that coats lips and makes sure your lipstick goes on smoothly and stays where you want it to. Cause really, who wants orange smears everywhere?
Givenchy Rouge Interdit Fruity Orange: I’ve been fairly vocal about my love of fuchsia and red lipsticks, but lately I’m on an orange kick. Tangerine lips were all over the Spring 2011 runway shows, but I’m impatient and I want to try them out now. Luckily they look great on a untanned face and cheers up blah winter clothes. Givenchy’s Fruity Orange is a cross between coral and salmon and has just enough sheen.
I’ve never been accused of being a minimalist — why pack one lipgloss when you could pack four? — so I tend to stay away from all-in-one kits. But I am completely smitten with Jouer’s four-piece Weekender collection. The products are all interlocking (think Legos meets compacts) so that they click together in a tidy, easy-to-pack way. They’ve got everything covered: a trio of matte shadows in pretty neutrals; a versatile translucent powder and natural-looking bronzer; a creamy cheek tint and highlighter; and a warm copper gloss. At $58, it’s a pretty amazing value. Throw it in your bag with some tinted moisturizer and mascara and you’re set for a short trip. (Or, if you’re me, it’s handy for transitioning from the office ‘hot mess’ look to a more presentable nighttime look.)
Glycolic acid is one of the most powerful and most misused ingredients in the skincare world. An alpha-hydroxy acid, it dissolves the top layer of dead skin cells to give you clear, even, smooth skin. But use too much and you’re destined for Ouchy Redville. A new skincare line, founded by dermatologist Craig Austin, aims to give you all the good glycolic benefits without any of the bad. Cane + Austin launched with two products, both of which use pharmaceutical-grade glycolic acid to give you the at-home equivalent of a trip to the dermatologist. The Retexturizing Treatment Pads has 10% glycolic acid, while the Acne Treatment pads combine a lower dose of glycolic acid and salicylic acid to exfoliate the skin and treat existing acne. Both products have vitamins A, C, and E, as well as anti-oxidents to help moisturize and repair skin. Because they come in pads, you aren’t tempted to leave them on for longer (the way you would a mask) and it’s harder to overdo it. They can be used every day, morning and night, but I found that a bit much. But even used every other day, they still make a huge difference - brighter, smoother skin. And much less expensive than a professional visit.
Obpliphica. We’re in love with it and we can barely pronounce it. The tongue-twisty ingredient (also known by the more prosaic sounding Sea Buckthorn berry oil), is the star of Amika, a line of haircare products and styling tools. Obpliphica is native to Europe and Asia and has high concentrations of carotene, vitamin C, and Omega 3, 6, 9, and 7 — which means it’s like superfood for your hair. The products also have natural ingredients like Argan oil and olive oil, which sleeken and protect without making strands greasy.
We received samples of the products and styling tools at the office this morning and, despite very lengthy to do lists, immediately set about testing them. The darling Go-Go travel kit, with giraffe printed mini straightener and dryer, is a no-brainer gift for your favorite jetsetter. The serum was an all-around winner, and works on both dry and wet hair (perfect for office!), and the shine spray made hair instantly glossier (just careful not to use too much).
Here’s the mini giraffe dryer in action (it even matches my shoes!):
