We fell hard for Natalie Alcala last fall, when the LA-based writer and blogger spent a week guest blogging for us. In fact, we loved her posts so much that we asked her to be a contributing editor. In addition to blogging for us once a week, she’ll also be writing for the Birchbox Magazine and keeping us up to speed on all things fashion, beauty, and fun.

It happened! Last Saturday I got married, and it was as a dreamy as I hoped it would be. Everyone was spot-on when they told me that the day goes by ridiculously fast, so I’m glad that I savored every second of it. As previously mentioned, I went for a bohemian luxe look that matched my Pacific Palisades venue’s picture-perfect setting. Take a peek at some snaps, along with fashion and beauty credits, below!

I can’t believe it, but the day has finally come. My wedding is tomorrow (!) and I couldn’t be more excited. To ensure that my tresses are at their best before I walk down that aisle, I paid a visit to my go-to stylist, Janine Jarman of Shear Genius fame, to get a quick trim at her charming Hollywood salon Hairroin. (Fun fact: this spot is also a great place to score brilliant braids.)
Given that Jarman’s highly-publicized wedding looked like a dream, I couldn’t resist asking her for some helpful tips on hair for the big day. Read on for eight great takeaways, straight from the source.
1. Don’t hide behind your hair.“Have your hair in such a way that a side of your face is exposed, because you don’t want to cover your face in pictures. If you have long hair, clear a shoulder before photos or tuck a few strands behind the ear.”

Surprise! I’m getting married in one week, and in true West Coast bride form, I’m going for a bohemian luxe look that’s a cross between Kate Moss and Pamela Love.
There are a handful of local havens that are helping me nail the look. With my trusty bridal beauty game plan in tow, I’ll be hitting up these spots throughout the next few days. (Oh, and in case you’re wondering, anxiety levels are surprisingly moderate—for now!)

This truly is a makeup lover’s paradise. In addition to offering star-quality services in their studio, they also make at-home calls for those looking for a more private experience. I think I’ve used them for just about every special occasion since they opened.

As a fashion editor, one has to make a critical choice when planning for an action-packed event like Coachella: do you report on style at the actual festival or just the surrounding parties? Due to my procrastination to buy a ticket, I chose the latter and trekked out to the desert to cover all the super-cool, sometimes super-exclusive bashes.
In all my years of Coachella-ing (10 years exactly, yikes) one trend that never ceases to appear is the floral crown. This festival style requisite has been around since the hippie Woodstock days, so I’m not surprised that it has remained a staple on the heads of boho-channeling partygoers. Plus, they’re really pretty. With that said, here are a few fun wreaths that caught my eye this time around.

Happy first day of Coachella! Here’s a roundup of tried and true beauty products that I’ve packed for 72 hours in the desert.
1. NCLA Nail Wraps in Stephanie’s Galaxy ($16): I’m utterly obsessed with this LA-based nail art company. Not only do these intergalactic wraps satisfy my ongoing passion for all things galaxy-inspired, but they also guarantee chip-free tips for the entire trip.
2. Jouer Matte Moisture Tint ($38): I can’t sing the praises of this tinted moisturizer enough. Not only does it keep my combination oily skin from looking embarrassingly glowy, it also provides ample, SPF-powered coverage throughout the day. (To be extra safe, though, don’t forget to touch up with another SPF during the day!)

Drew Barrymore is Hollywood’s original manic pixie dream girl. From nailing classic rebel roles in films like Mad Love to defining quintessential ’90s style before it was a thing (I could scan this blog all day), the actress is in a league of her own. Which is why I was over the moon when I heard she was speaking at this year’s Lucky FABB conference in LA.

Los Angeles is swiftly becoming the epicenter of intricately styled coifs. In addition to a whopping five places to score brilliant braids in this sunny city, a new, game-changing hair haven has just hit the scene.

Spring is finally here! Time for picnics, pastels and lots of gingham. In addition to sprucing up my lip looks this season, I’ll also be reaching for lightweight products that allow my skin to breath in heat. And with Earth Month right around the corner, clean and natural beautifiers are on my radar, too. Here are five current favorites.
1. Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter ($38): I seriously can’t talk about this cream without getting giddy. After showering and drying off, I immediately lather this heavenly-scented, air-whipped butter all over my body. Free of parabens glycols and silicones, this is pretty much a one-way ticket to Hydration Nation.

In addition to all things nebula-inspired, metallics always make my heart skip a beat. I rocked the look above this past New Year’s Eve and kept the gilded theme going with bold treasures by LAS Jewelry, VeraMeat and TOMTOM. (I don’t have the exact shade name, sadly, but it’s by Color Club and I received it in a Birchbox a few months back.) Besides making an instant statement, what’s rad about this trend is that it’s a great way to rock bling sans actual jewelry, which is necessary for a writer like myself. (Try typing for hours with fussy rings on and you’ll see what I mean.) If you’re ready to give your digits a futuristic upgrade, here are a few of my favorite shades of the aluminum foil-inspired variety.

Spring officially starts next week! Besides cleaning out my closet to make room for brighter hues and lighter fabrics, it’s time to reevaluate my beauty sitch. While I can never resist a red lip, this might be the perfect time to get adventurous and experiment with new hues. With that said, here’s a roundup of four additional spring campaigns that shine a light on perfect pouts.

Rouge: Okay, this one isn’t exactly “adventurous” as it’s still a red lip, but this story really wouldn’t be complete without a Cara Delevingne cameo. Polish fashion label, Reserved, was inspired by ’80s and ’90s beauty for this campaign, hence the Robert Palmer pucker. Make’s Silk Cream Lipstick and this handy how-to are all you need to channel the look.
