Get Compliments on Your Beauty—Not Your Makeup: Guest Blogger

Whether you’re looking for celebrity gossip, the best product for frizzy hair, or advice on what to wear to your cousin’s wedding, the gals at Lovelyish have got you covered. Well-done makeup is always nice, but would you rather get compliments on your makeup or on your beauty? Personally, I’m not the kind of gal that can leave the house bare-faced, but it always feels good when someone asks if I’m not wearing makeup when I really am.

To pull off the no-makeup makeup look takes a bit of know-how and all the right formulas.

Why I’m Loving Older Women as the Stars of Major Beauty Campaigns

When she turned 41, model Lauren Hutton was fired from Revlon after ten years as the face of the brand. That was back in 1984. Three decades later, it appears that more mature ladies have made some major strides when it comes to landing (and keeping) contracts for coveted ad campaigns. The latest NARS Spring 2013 ad campaign features 42-year-old British model Stella Tennant. After watching the brand’s behind-the-scenes video, I came to the conclusion that the brunette’s amazing looks inadvertently prove that Aaliyah was right when she told us that age ain’t nothing but a number.

But what’s really interesting is that Tennant isn’t the only beauty campaign star over the age of 25. Lately, I’ve noticed that more and more middle-aged women are becoming the spokeswomen for big beauty brands—and it’s a trend I’m fully on board with.

Many of you probably know that mint was the color last season (mint skinny jeans, anyone?), but this spring designers are going a little less green and opting for seafoam tones instead.  We couldn’t resist the urge to take the theme a bit literally, and opted for ocean-inspired touches to go with this gorgeous seafoam bridesmaid gown by After Six: a pearl encrusted bracelet by Dessy, and freshwater pearl earrings by Dogeared.

The all black look is as much of a mainstay in the fashion world as white dresses are for brides—classic, timeless, and flattering on almost everyone.  We saw head-to-toe black in a number of Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear shows including the likes of Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Stella McCartney, and we think this trend would be great for a winter wedding!
