Nerd alert: one of our favorite things to do is read the customer reviews in the Birchbox Shop. You all are an opinionated bunch—and we like it! We especially love the love letters you write to your favorite products. (Though we’re still waiting on the haikus and iambic pentameter.) From time to time, we’ll be highlighting extrasweet customer serenades. Next up: a crowd-sourced collection of fashion forward nail colors.
Last September, we teamed up with fashion design duo Ruffian on their very first nail lacquer collection. Ever since, Ruffian’s on-trend Crowdsourced Collection has been winning over legions of fans. Here’s what a few Birchboxers had to say:
"Ruffian? More like smoothian. How was I blissfully unaware about to one of the glossiest, shimmeriest nail polishes ever!? I have the color "Hedgefund," a modest green color—I’d call it a feminine forest green. Love it. Plus, unlike most nail polishes, the wear and tear is at a minimum."—hilarying
"I just applied two coats of Fox Hunt RUFFIAN Nail Lacquer to my fingernails and I am in love. The color is perfect for fall without being pumpkin-y or school-affiliated burnt orange. The lacquer went on smoothly with full coverage and I found the brush easy to use, which is rare for this uncoordinated lefty. My nails look awesome in this color!"—GradysGal
"I love nail polish, but I am hopeless at making it look like the salon, even if I buy top-of-the-line brands. This polish is amazing. I painted my nails quickly before a week sailing in Greece. At the end of the week, this polish had BARELY even chipped!"-Ashley
These fan girls have convinced us—have you tried these miraculously long-lasting polishes?

How to Throw the Ultimate Arm Party
Goodbye flowery pinks and bright neons! After several seasons of bolder-than-Miley-at-the-VMAs hues and extreme nail art, I’m embracing modern-looking and demure lacquerers this fall. My personal favorite? Floss Gloss’s carmel-hued polish Tanlines.
As a diehard SPF fanatic, I avoid tanlines at all cost, but this is one sun-inspired trend I can get behind. I love that the color is sophisticated enough rock in a buttoned-up office, yet hip enough to showoff at a after-hours indie concert.
Plus, the camel-colored shade pairs perfectly with all my favorite accessories. Right now, I’m throwing a decadent arm party (as you can see from the photos above) and I invited my dearest friends: BRIKA Leather Wrap Bracelet by Sewsephine, Sashi Sam Bracelet, rumbaTIME Orchard Gem, and Shashi Lilu Bracelet.
What’s your favorite polish and accessory pairing?
Craving more polish options? Here are four fall 2013 looks we’re loving right now.
Between busy work schedules and jam-packed social calendars, it’s tough to fit in a little mani time. With the work week winding down (whoo hoo!), we’ve rounded up eight topnotch manicures to try this weekend:
When we’re facing an approaching blizzard, our thoughts turn to hot soup, cozy blankets…and hunkering down with friends for a mani party. The upside of being trapped inside all day? There’s little risk of smudging your fresh polish.
As Nemo hits the Northeast, the hue that will brighten my spirits and make me think of tropical climes is Color Club’s recently released Wild Cactus. The rich emerald shade is totally on trend, matching Pantone’s Color of the Year (stay tuned for our video all about emerald), and looks great with my paler-then-pale skin. Tough enough to weather the storm, the rock-solid formula stays chip-free for days and is free of harsh ingredients like formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP.

We’re devoted fans of all things polish in the Birchbox offices, so of course Gina Galullo’s nail polish blog, Prim and Polished, caught our eye. A lawyer-by-day and a lacquer connoisseur-by-night, Galullo posts thoughtful reviews of new shades along with colorful swatches, so even novice polish-wearers have an insider’s guide to the prettiest hues. This week, she shares the products she can’t live without, plus the work-appropriate shades you can even rock in your cubicle.
I’m an attorney and while my office isn’t ultra conservative, court is—so I always try to dial it down when I know I’ll be there. Here are six nail polishes that I think work well in conservative situations, and all of them have awesome formulas.
1. Essie’s Topless & Barefoot: a pink, nude crème perfect for a day at work.
2. Butter London’s Yummy Mummy: a mauvey taupe with a very subtle silver shimmer.

As much as we love nail art, we’re better at admiring designs than coming up with them ourselves. That’s why we’ve enlisted Anna Norman, the smarty pants behind Glitter, She Wrote, to be a regular contributor. Every Monday, she’ll be sharing her latest lacquer inspiration—you won’t be satisfied with plain ol’ polish again.
There’s no better time than a holiday to go all out on your nails, and the Fourth of July is no exception. The simple color scheme plus the iconic stars, stripes, and sparkles that go along with the day translate so well into nail art. I just couldn’t resist. Here’s what I’ll be wearing on Wednesday:
