Nail Art Trend Alert: The Statement Toe

image

If the past year in nail art has taught us anything, it’s that the accent nail is a must. Whether covered in bold and textured polishes or glue-on studs, shinning the spotlight on one finger is a fresh fun look. But with all the buzz surrounding manicures, we seem to have missed an opportunity to bring our feet in on the fun.

This sandal season, all that is going to change. For summer, make your pedi wow-worthy by embracing the hottest new trend: the statement toe.

My Quest For the Perfect Pen

image

When I was a little girl, I had a tradition on Sunday nights with my dad. After family dinner, we’d drive to my local Walgreen’s and hang out in the aisles. While he’d flip through the latest magazines, I would pore over the pens and pencils—scouting out any new additions that could potentially join my school bag lineup.

It sounds a little strange to hang out in the pen aisle, I know, but I swear that while I was growing up in the ’90s, there was some very serious pen innovation happening. Every week something new could pop up that would blow your mind. I got to take part in the era of Lisa Frank, multi-color and glitter-friendly gelly rolls, and who could forget the squiggle pen? Which is all a very nostalgic way of saying that I have had a fairly long love affair with pens—and that I am very picky when it comes to what I actually like.

Birchbox Beauty Diaries: Cofounder Edition

image

Every month you see Katia, Hayley, and Mollie talk about the upcoming Birchbox and all the new products they’re excited to share with you in our monthly sneak peek. But do you know what products they keep on their vanities?

In honor of this month’s theme, we asked each of these execs to share their daily beauty diaries with us. But before we spill the beans, take a guess at which morning beauty routine belongs to each Birchbox leader:

8:00 a.m. I’m a beauty minimalist, so my morning skincare consists of moisturizer, eye cream, and body lotion. Then, I’ll use a little concealer, minimal eye makeup, and either a lip balm or a fun bold lip. I like to play around and improvise, especially with new samples I receive in my Birchbox.

7:30 a.m. After the shower, I slather Kiehl’s Creme de Corps on my body and apply a face oil (currently in l-o-v-e with Caudalie Divine Oil). For makeup, I mix together Marcelle’s BB Cream in Golden Glow with Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint for a sheer base, then dab on plenty of cream blush. Two coats of mascara, and that’s it.

7:00 a.m. I use Kiehl’s Clay Cleanser in the shower, then follow with Caudalie serum and Tatcha moisturizer and eye cream. I also use TALIKA Lipocils Expert, a lash growth serum, every day.

Stumped? Check out Birchbox Beauty Diaries: Cofounder Edition to learn the answer and find out how these three busy ladies stay fresh and polished all day long.

The 6 Most Stylish Coming-of-Age Protagonists

image

While we were growing up, there were a few places that we learned about style: our mothers, magazines, and of course—classic coming-of-age movies. Actors in iconic roles always seem to have a certain look that never gets old. Case in point: when you think of James Dean, isn’t he always wearing the white shirt and red jacket combo from Rebel Without a Cause? So many guys (and girls) that we know were inspired by Dean’s outfit and embraced that white t-shirt and leather jacket signature style long after their teenage years ended.

In honor of all that youthful inspiration, the gents over at Birchbox Man have compiled a decade-by-decade roundup of six handsome movie characters who taught them how to dress. Click through for some serious eye candy (and perhaps some wardrobe ideas for the guys in your life)!

Great Gatsby, The Kentucky Derby, Before Midnight and More: Birchbox May Agenda

image

May is one of our favorite months of the year, especially here in New York. After months of grey skies and barren sidewalks, the city’s parks are finally in full bloom, and everyone suddenly has the newfound energy to make plans.

In the latest edition of the Birchbox Agenda, we’ve assembled a list of things to do, eat, drink, and watch in May—whether you’re with your friends or flying solo. Foodies especially will love recipes for a Kentucky Derby-inspired mint julep and a raw asparagus salad (the yummiest way to redeem a winter’s worth of pasta dinners). And film buffs will have a field day this month, with a slew of upcoming flicks—including the Great Gatsby and the long-awaited sequel to Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. There’s so much to do we couldn’t even think of spending another weekend afternoon on the couch.
