We loved New York Fashion Week’s attention-grabbing beauty trends like burgundy lips and messy halo braids. But in the midst of all the big, bold looks for this fall, there was one beauty product that was conspicuously absent on many of the runways: mascara. DKNY, Lacoste, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and several other shows featured models with clean lashes that drew attention away from the eyes and instead focused it on features like flawless skin or pouty lips. We admittedly feel a bit naked without a quick swipe of mascara before heading out the door, but this new modern look has us considering leaving the makeup bag staple behind and trying something different.
If we had to pick one beauty look from this week so far that represents how we want to wear our makeup come spring, it would be the look from Tibi. Describing the inspiration in a nutshell, lead makeup artist Kim Soane of Bobbi Brown said ” it’s a cool, urban, casual feel with a fresh spring vibe.”
This week’s guest blogger, Vida Lee, hits close to home for us—literally! She’s a beauty guru based in our hometown: New York City. Aside from being a product addict, she’s also a medical school student (whoa!) who makes time on the side for her pretty blog, P.S. It’s Vida. Over the next few days, the smarty savant will be sharing her greatest tips and tricks for staying prepped and primed for summer.
Summer is all about bright colors, which makes it a bit difficult for a neutral lover like myself to come out of her shell. Here are some products I love to use which keep my look simple while I’m sporting a statement lip:
1. Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner: When I want to keep eyes simple, I use this gel eyeliner to create a thick black line with a flick. It’s creamy and smooth, long lasting, and has a great intense black color.
2. Prestige My Blackest Lashes: This mascara works wonders for separating and volumizing—with two coats, you’ll have jumbo, thick lashes that add the perfect touch of drama to an otherwise simple eye.
How To: Matte Lips
Matte lips have been showing up on the runways for the past few seasons and we’ve expressed our love for them many times — but they can also be a little intimidating. Luckily, makeup artist Nam Vo stepped in to give us some pointers. Following her instructions to prep, prime, and shade ahead of time, we’re ready to rock these all spring long!
