Get Spring Styling Tips From Madewell’s Editorial Director (Plus, A Chance To Win Must-Have Spring Beauty Products!)
Madewell is one of our go-to spots for laidback-cool outfits—our office basically lives in their clothes year round. So it’s very fitting that we’ve teamed up with them on a few fun collaborations this month. First, Madewell editorial director Susan Cernek gave us a tutorial on how to look like a Madewell girl (if only!). Watch the video for her tips on styling the top spring trends and looking like the models you see in their catalog.
And since Madewell is one of our favorite places to shop that adorable easy-breezy look, we’re happy to say that everyone on the Birchbox mailing list is receiving an exclusive $25 off $75+ shopping offer from Madewell in their inbox—so be on the lookout!
This past September, we were thrilled to partner with Madewell on a special offer. The collab was such a hit that we’ve teamed up with the superstylish brand yet again this month. If you’re a subscriber, you’ll find an exclusive Madewell-print nail file in your March box. But even if you’re not a subscriber, you can still partake in all the Madewell fun. This upcoming week, everyone on our mailing list (subscribers and non-subscribers alike) will be getting an email with a unique promo code for $25 off a purchase of $75+ on madewell.com.
If you walked around the Birchbox office on any given day, you’d probably see at least 20 of our staffers sporting outfits from Madewell. It’s not the official dress code, but it might as well be. Not only is our HQ located just a few blocks from one of their stores, but their collections always strike the right balance of cool and casual. That’s why we were thrilled to have a chance to interview Madewell’s Head Designer, Kin Ying Lee, a few weeks ago at our September video shoot. The topic? Fall fashion, of course. Specifically: what five pieces we need to add to our closet this season. Click play and start taking notes: you don’t want to start your fall shopping without this list.
No other season makes us want to revamp our closet quite like fall. As much as we’d love to spend our entire paychecks on new pieces, silly things like rent and bills get in the way. That’s why we called on Madewell’s head designer, Kin Ying Lee, to help us decide what we should invest in. Here’s what she had to say about the items (and products!) you need to own this season.
Madewell lead designer Kin Ying Lee keeps her look cute and casual.
Birchbox: What’s the one fall fashion trend everyone should try?
BB: What are the top three staples every woman should have in her wardrobe right now?
First, a seriously great pair of slim jeans like our Skinny Skinny or Skinny Skinny High Riser. Second, something bold like a bright silk blouse, patterned sweater, or colorful bag. It adds a little excitement to your everyday. Third, a pair of our Sidewalk Skimmers. Flats are always in style and ours come in rich colors and patterns.
It’s the start of Fashion Week, and to properly ring in the start of this season’s style extravaganza, we held a Fashion’s Night Out event in collaboration with Madewell. Lucky Madewell customers who were at the SoHo and Fifth Avenue stores in NYC and the Newbury Street store in Boston were offered September Birchboxes with any purchase of $100 or more. The fifth avenue store was bumping with energy—a kickbutt DJ rocked shoppers, while master hair technicians pulled together a variety of gorgeous plaits at the braid bar. Here’s a peek at the vibe inside:
On any given day around the Birchbox office, you’re guaranteed to find the following: lots of pink, lots of beauty products, and lots of staffers wearing Madewell clothing. Since Madewell is one of our favorite brands, we jumped at the chance to work with them. We’ve teamed up for the Madewell + Birchbox Beauty & Style Bonanza Sweepstakes—enter for a chance to win a Madewell shopping spree and a year’s worth of beauty products!
If there has been one recurring theme this spring, it’s been ‘wah wah weather sucks.’ And lo and behold, this Monday is another one of those gray and sad days. But instead of moping into my oatmeal, I’m channeling positive thinking. And wearing lots of color. Here’s my prescription for a gloomy Monday:
1. Madewell Waterfall Blouse
I snatched this watercolor blouse off the sale rack a few weeks ago and it’s already one of my favorites. It’s loose without being dowdy, and the bright hues make me happy. It has since sold out but you can get a similarly billowy (read: belly-concealing) version here. Or get this amazing ikat dealie.
I love love this chubby lip crayon. It goes on sheer so you don’t have to worry about a really precise application, and the bright fuchsia is spot on. Even if you aren’t wearing any makeup it gives your whole face a fresh look. Love love.
Mom moment: eat breakfast! It’s the best thing you can do to get your energy going. I recently traded up from regular oatmeal to this multi-grain hot cereal - way more good nutrients in it, and keeps me full all morning.
