Say Hello To My All-Time Favorite Lipgloss: stila’s lip glaze

image

A fraction of my ever-growing stila collection. Shades from bottom to top:  joy, black cherry, and holly.

Admitting you have a problem is half the battle—so here goes nothing: Hi, My name is Ally and I am a lipgloss addict. My obsession started in the 6th grade. It was Christmas. Deep within my stocking lurked something completely new—a Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker in Pink Lemonade. I can still remember the spot-on flavor and light pink sheen like it was, yesterday. One swipe and I. was. hooked.

BURGUNDY HUES TAKE CENTERSTAGE AT ZAC POSEN

If designer Zac Posen’s Fall 2013 collection is any indicator of beauty trends to come, burgundy is about to have a major moment. Backstage models were sporting glossy, port-wine manis and deep plum lips. Essie’s lead manicurist Michelle Saunders told us that the lacquer hue  was chosen to match several evening dresses in the designer’s collection.

To create the look, Saunders and her crew applied two coats of essie’s Carry On. The crimson shade looked smashing, and its very apt name appropriately described the post-Nemo mood backstage.

MAC’s key makeup artist Kabuki contrasted ethereal white eye shadow with a wow-factor pout to build on the collection’s rich color story, outlining lips with the Pencil NC15 in Vino Lip Liner to keep lipstick smudge- and crease-free. Next, he applied MAC’s Lip Mix in Burgundy with a slim makeup brush.

Elaborating on the color, Kabuki explained, “I had Tilda Swinton in the back of my mind.” The finished look definitely evoked the regal actress’s elegance and boldness.

Beauty Resolution: Experiment with Lip Color

In 2011, I resolve to have more fun with lip color. For a really long time, I’ve been stuck in a sheer pink gloss rut because it’s just so easy to apply and it works well with my fair complexion. Next year though, I plan on amping up my daily lip color routine by experimenting with super-vibrant hues, like bright reds for the rest of winter and warm corals come spring and summer. To pull off these shades the right way, I’ll not only be looking to invest in some new lipsticks, but also a couple of quality lip liners (precision will be key to getting these looks right). — Meredith
