Anytime something show-stoppingly pink ends up on my desk, I’m inspired to share my excitement. My latest love is OCC's brand new neon pink lip tar called Nylon, a tribute to the celeb-and-fashion focused glossy. The magazine's September issue heralds OCC's innovative lip tars as “The Best Lipstick of 2012,” and to celebrate, the makeup brand created the poptastic Pantone-matched color. If you haven't tried lip tars before, this is the perfect time to pick one up—you’ll honestly never find a lip color that is more pigmented or long-lasting!
Would you dare wear this bright bubblegum shade?
If you’re looking to jazz up your regular lipstick routine, you can also check out the Birchbox Shop!
Last week, the Birchbox editors took a behind-the-scenes visit to the new Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics store on New York’s trendy Lower East Side. The 100% vegan, cruelty-free brand, known for its hyper-pigmented lip colors, just opened their first outpost in September, and has since been offering their makeup artist know-how and line of gorgeous hues to residents of the über-trendy neighborhood. The Vibe: Geometric shapes and hard lines with a pop of the unexpected. To match fall’s VPL line, which is filled with strong graphic shapes and sexy silhouettes, lead stylist Bob Recine created a slicked down look, but added a free-falling crown piece for flow. To achieve the style, Recine dried hair with an amika dryer, the parted hair at the center or on the side. He then pulled away a triangular section of hair at the crown (to be released later), and combed down the sides. Products that were essential were Phyto's Volume Mousse to get the right texture and Phytolaque Soie Hair Spray, which were spritzed on brushes to add shine. “You want that diamond finish, which is not wet or glossy, but more glassy” said Recine. Side sections were then tied into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, and covered with the top portion of free hair that was then combed out and flat-ironed with an amika straightener.
We’d be lying if we said there wasn’t a little East Coast bias at Birchbox HQ. But since Associate Editor and San Francisco native Candice started here a few months ago, we’ve opened our eyes to the wonders of the West. Like mass quantities of Red Vines and a generally more laid-back, cool approach to life. Today we snuck a shot of her product-filled desk including the amazing OCC Lip Tars she wrote about yesterday.

Today, these amazing lip tars from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics landed on our desk, and wouldn’t you know it, our entire office is in love.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is a cult brand based in New York that’s known for their ultra-bright lip colors. These hyper-pigmented shades, which are 100 percent vegan & cruelty free, come in a wide range of hues like seriously neon pink, true cyan blue, and even neon orange. Some of us, (here’s looking at you, Meredith and Rachel) are obsessed with their extra-bright pinks, which are the first we’ve found that really give a magazine photo-like pop to our puckers.
True to it’s name, lip tar goes on like a liquid lipgloss, but they have a completely matte finish and stay on your lips for hours. Take note, the colors are best applied with a lip brush and you really only need a couple drops of the tar to coat your entire pout. Click through to see Birchboxers model lip tar!
