The Katie Holmes + Bobbi Brown Makeup Collection Has Arrived!
As children of the ’90s, we’ll admit that we’ve loved Katie Holmes ever since she stole our hearts as Joey on Dawson’s Creek—and that’s almost as long as we’ve adored Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. So imagine our delight when we found out earlier this month that the duo had joined forces.
Now, they’ve finally released the final product: A makeup collection for busy, everyday women to help them get a gorgeous, effortless Katie Holmes glow.
Our favorite part of the limited edition collection is the Bobbi & Katie palette ($68) for eyes, cheeks and lips. The set includes a combination of nudes, pinks and browns which makes it particularly easy to create a neutral, lady-like look. Plus It’s small enough to fit in your purse, so whether you’re rushing to work, doing a midday touchup, or transitioning from day to night, you can leave your full-blown makeup bag at home.
To snag the Bobbi & Katie collection for yourself, stop by a Bobbi Brown counter or visit Bobbibrowncosmetics.com.
Looking for a more robust set of neutral colors? We love this game-changing palette from Coastal Scents.
Katie rocks big, beautiful hair (photo: Tom Munro for Alterna)
Confession: I have a bit of a crush on Katie Holmes, especially now that she’s extricated herself, Mission: Impossible-like, from her überhigh-profile TomKat coupledom. In the past seven months, she has also staged her first Holmes & Yang show at New York Fashion Week, looked paparazzi-ready while grocery shopping and hanging with Suri, and signed on as the face (and mane) of Alterna.
We’re not surprised by the partnership: Holmes has rocked pixie cuts and long, luscious locks alike. So she’s a natural spokesperson for the luxe hair company, which, like the newly single style icon, recently made the move from Los Angeles to New York.
Holmes touts the line’s natural approach to hair care—it was one of the first to ditch parabens, sulfates and phthalates—and credits Alterna for her gorgeous brunette locks: “If I had to pick one word to describe what happens to my hair when I use Alterna, it would have to be transformation.”
Our Birchbox customers heart Alterna too—in particular the Bamboo UV+ Color Protection Fade-Proof Fluide, a finishing gloss that shields tresses from sun damage and is clinically proven to help color-treated hair retain its luster. Faux blondes, brunettes and redheads loved the fade-proof protection, describing it as “sunscreen for hair.” They also reported that it smells amazing—“natural and warm (in a summery way)”—and even those of with superfine hair noted that the serum “adds silkiness and shine without being greasy.”
Have tinted tresses? Try Alterna Bamboo ColorHold+ Vibrant Color Shampoo and Conditioner—and tell us about your experience.

We fell hard for Natalie Alcala last fall, when the LA-based writer and blogger spent a week guest blogging for us. In fact, we loved her posts so much that we asked her to be a contributing editor. In addition to blogging for us once a week, she’ll also be writing for the Birchbox Magazine and keeping us up to speed on all things fashion, beauty, and fun.

When I first saw Katie Holmes sporting fabulous fringe by celebrity stylist Andy LeCompte on Elle’s August cover, I wanted to know everything about it. Although I’ve been rocking fringe for the majority of my life (here’s a recent snap) and know a thing or two about how to maintain it, I still get fringe envy from time to time. Holmes triggered this sensation and forced me to beeline it to my go-to hair guru, Jeremy Davies-Barbala—the senior creative director at Sassoon Salon.
If you’re wondering why I keep saying “fringe” and not “bangs,” blame it on Jeremy. The exceptionally stylish British expat shutters at the b-word, insisting that “fringe” is a more suitable description of the style. I think he’s right. Here are his easy dos and don’ts on nailing the look:

Five short years after getting married at a breathtaking (and massively publicized) ceremony in an Italian castle, former Dawson’s Creek star Katie Holmes and Hollywood mogul/punching bag Tom Cruise are getting divorced.
When Martin, our typically-unconcerned-with-celebrity-news BB Man editor, read the People headline to himself around 1:30 today, the news swept across the office in seconds and arrested productivity for a solid minute. Heads popped up from ops, beauty partnerships, editorial and logistics alike—all wearing perplexed expressions.
Even though we run the risk of dating ourselves, we’ll happily admit that we grew up during one of the best decades of the last century: the ’90s. Who could forget the brilliance that was T.G.I.F. (the Friday night TV lineup, not the restaurant), boy bands in baggy clothes, and of course, scrunchies. In honor of the beauty looks that inspired some of our best (and worst) outfits, here are the top 10 TV character styles that helped shape our youth.
Name: Angela Chase (a.k.a. Claire Danes)
The Look We Loved: Angela Chase was the perfect on-screen version of us: the constantly questioning, ever-complicated protagonist of My So-Called Life. Her red hair, those brooding blue eyes—which somehow were always lightly done in barely there eyeshadow and eyeliner that really gave extra pop—and so much personality. Thanks for getting us through the tough, icky questions of adolescence, Angela.
Katie Holmes stunned the crowd at the recent Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol premiere in New York. We love her glowing skin, sleek brows, and effortless updo, but it was her eyes that reminded us of why she’ll always be the prettier half of TomKat (despite stiff competition from her well-groomed hubbie). The secret to Katie’s alluring gaze? Navy liner on her top and bottom lash lines along with a faint wash of shimmery dark shadow. Her eye makeup complements her monochrome polka dot dress in a way that’s not too matchy-matchy, and we think it’s a great twist on the classic smokey look.
