Whew. We’re still catching our breath after fashion week wrapped up here in New York last Thursday. After seeing as many shows as we did, they all start to blur together, but one thing really stands out in our opinion: the nail art. Graphic, bold, and utterly innovative, the designs we saw backstage for spring prove that this trend isn’t going anywhere. Here’s a look at ten standout manis that we can’t wait to replicate.

There is nothing we love more than a fresh take on an easy-to-achieve hairstyle. Yesterday at Katie Gallagher, we spied the perfect new iteration of the topknot, one that’s messy and expertly side-swept. Lead stylist for Moroccan Oil, Cesar Ramirez, said of the look: “I wanted to add an intricate feeling to something that was really simple and effortless.” To add that extra dimension, the back of the hair was sectioned into three twists and then all the pieces were twisted into a topknot. “The less effort the better,” said Ramirez, much to our delight (even though he later admitted that anyone with thick hair would need to use a handful of bobby pins). To set the romantic, wispy style, he used Moroccan Oil’s Luminous Strong Hold Spray.

Another favorite hairspray is Ojon’s Volumizing Styling Spray.
New York Fashion Week might have come to an end, but we’re still gushing over our favorite manicures from the fall 2012 shows. We wanted to round up the highlights, so we came up with the five standouts that have inspired us to test out new designs.

Show: threeASFOUR
The Look: Gorgeous lacey, spider web nails by Color Club that were created to match the laser-cut pieces. Lead manicurist Alicia Torello used a specially made dove gray nail art pen to draw tiny stripes back and forth free-hand over the nail, mimicking the unique, romantic feel of lace.

The Show: Katie Gallagher
Hair: Cesar Ramirez at Dop Dop
Makeup: Robert Greene, M.A.C. Cosmetics
Nails: Fleury Rose for Color Club
The Vibe: The forest was the inspiration behind Katie Gallagher’s show, so it should come as no surprise that green was a pervasive color theme. Lead M.A.C. makeup artist, Robert Greene, created bold, bright eyes using Lime shadow over Charcoal shadow. “I’m using really unconventional colors to create a new kind of smokey eye,” explained Greene. “We’re extending the color really far down on the lower section and doing tons of blending so it’s like a watermark with no edges.” To emphasize the eyes, the rest of the face was kept monotone, with pale lips, a bit of tawny blush, and no mascara.
