As much as we love fast fashion and popular style from the Zaras and Bloomingdales of the world, sometimes we just want a beautiful, totally unique piece from an adorable boutique. Enter Shoptiques, an e-commerce site that allows you to shop local stores in the U.S. and Paris. This week, Tracey Wallace—Shoptique’s Director of Content—is giving us the lowdown on the best shops and how to pick standout pieces that play up your individual style.

The hunt for one-of-a-kind pieces is a never-ending process. Boutiques generally beat out bigger chain stores when it comes to original items that speak to the buyer, the store, and the designer all at the same time. It is truly the style trifecta and it allows you the opportunity to forever say, “Oh, I just picked it up at this little shop.”
But atypical pieces aren’t always the easiest to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe. The trick is using them in ways that are subtle yet surprising. Here are my best tips to getting it right every single time:
Instagram of the Week: by boe Bracelet
After beauty, accessories are our next favorite thing. That’s why we’re thrilled to be offering some beautiful by boe jewelry in our Shop! Designed by Swedish-born and Parsons-educated Annika Salame, these pieces are simple but unique, and made of leather and 14-Karat gold. Not long after the by boe rings, bracelets, and necklaces became available on our site, Birchbox staffer Deepica was spotted wearing a new by boe Delicate Dart Bracelet. We love her chic watch-bracelet combo.
Looking to snag a by boe accessory for yourself? Score one of their delightful pieces from our Shop.
One of our favorite things about Melissa “Mellie” Davis’ blog, The Fat Apple, NYC, is its tagline: “Doing NYC in Plus Size Style.” Davis, a New York-based fashion insider, has her finger on the pulse of and trends—from the Food Network’s Wine & Food festival to the hottest new plus size lines. Best of all, she always finds a way to make gorgeous style for curvy ladies both easy and fun.
October signifies many things to many people: Halloween, pumpkins, fall clothing, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For me, Breast Cancer Awareness is a bittersweet part of the year. My sister had breast cancer. It’s hard to write that, mainly because I use the past tense to refer to her. She was diagnosed early in life and lost her battle very soon after. While there’s pain there, there’s also hope.
I’ve been able to see her two daughters grow up to be amazing women who have many opportunities for greatness. I’ve also seen brands and companies join forces with foundations like The Breast Cancer Research Fund, American Cancer Society, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure that are working to find a way to eradicate this disease. Here are just a few of the (stylish) ways that you can support breast cancer research and help save lives.
This week’s guest blogger, Kalyca Romeo of Romeostyle.com, is one seriously talented lady. After graduating from the Fashion Institute for Technology eight years ago, New York-based fashion insider has worked as a buyer, a designer, and a particularly savvy personal stylist. We’re loving her tips on crafting the perfect date night outfit, rocking the latest white styles, and test-driving fall/winter makeup looks right now.
On a first date, you don’t want to look like you’ve spent the entire day getting ready, but you do want to look gorgeous andeffortless all at the same time. What has worked for me has always been the head-to-toe outfits that make me feel confident, comfortable, and sexy—but that have a twist. Here are two first date fashion ideas that work well during the summer months.
Idea #1: A floral dress or skirt has been an encouraged first-date outfit for as long as I can remember. Switch things up a bit by trying something a little different, like a pair of floral print jeans or pants. Beauty tip: don’t forget to bring a lip gloss like a stila Lip Glaze or Clark’s Botanicals’ Ultra Rich Lip Tint.
Idea #2: There’s an inclination to show some leg on the first date, which is fine, but nothing looks worse than a woman pulling and tugging at her mini all night. A more comfortable option that’s still very alluring is dressing up a pair of shorts. Combine a neutral pair with a flowy blouse and a standout accessory for an eye-catching yet sophisticated look. There’s also the jumpsuit route. Find one that flatters your body and not only is it easy, it will also help you keep your cool on a hot summer night. Take the style from casual to classy by pairing it with urbane platforms and some killer dangly earrings. Beauty tip: exposed skin always looks better when it’s a little glowy. Invest in products that will make you beam, in a good way, like Vapour Organic Beauty’s Aura Multi-Use Blush and Comodynes Self-Tanning Towelettes.

With July in full swing and the heat here to stay, we would love to spend our weekends on the water. Since a yacht club membership isn’t in the cards anytime soon, we’re settling for nautical-inspired looks and prints that remind us of the open ocean.
Whether or not you’re stuck on dry land, be sure to slather on the SPF this summer!
