It’s not really my specialty to do my makeup in a hurry, but there are times I like a good challenge. The other morning, I decided to set my iPhone timer for exactly 5 minutes to see if I could actually accomplish the daunting task. Granted, this isn’t the full face of makeup that I typically sport, but it was definitely enough so I wouldn’t be embarrassed if I ran into someone I know at the local coffee shop. Here are my before and after shots so you can see what can be done in 5 minutes flat. (I can’t believe I’m showing you my bare morning face and robe ensemble, but I’m doing this to show everyone there’s hope even when time’s an issue!)

On your mark. Get set. GO!

When I say contour, it means you’re adding definition to your face by bringing certain features out, and playing down others. The payoff is big! There are a couple ways you can add contour to your face—either with liquid foundations or with powders. It’s about personal preference and how much time you have on your hands (powder takes less time to perfect in my opinion, and is easier for amateurs to pull off).

My main goals when contouring: create chiseled cheekbones, shorten the length of my long face, and make my nose seem thinner. I usually apply all of my makeup first, eyes and foundation, then apply the bronzer, blush, and highlighter last. Use a matte bronzer only a shade or two darker than your natural skin tone for contouring, since shimmer would look too fake if you’re using it on multiple areas of your face. Here’s a play by play of how to quickly contour a face.

The matte lip look is incredibly classy. I’ve been able to give some of my old lipsticks a new “matte” life by using my powder blushes on top of them. You get a huge bonus when combining the two, because the blush actually creates better staying power. Click through to find out how!

When it comes to finding the perfect and least intimidating eye shadow color for every skin tone, the overwhelming answer would have to be my best friend: brown.

Let’s face it, it’s a lot easier to pull off a brown shadow than a lime green shade, but that doesn’t mean that brown has to be boring.

I know telling you to pick out a brown hue is like asking you to pick out a great neutral khaki color from an endless Sherwin-Williams paint fan. It’s difficult to make heads or tails of all the options out there, and choosing the perfect shade can get overwhelming.

To help out with any confusion, there are certain undertones in a brown liner or shadow that complement every eye color.

Here’s a cheat sheet:
