Winter beauty can be tricky: Staving off chapped lips and dry skin while still managing to look cute is no easy feat. Add unexpected weather elements like snow flurries to the mix, and you can be in for major trouble. What’s a girl to do if she doesn’t want to hole up inside all winter? We took our question to a slew of outdoor pros—including an Olympic skier—to learn how they cold-proof their makeup routine. Read all about it in this month’s issue of the Birchbox Magazine.
We know you don’t have oodles of time to browse through everything on the Birchbox blog and in the magazine each week. Here’s a short list of the top blog posts, articles, videos, and news that we don’t want you to miss. Read them while you’re cozied up on your couch or in between activities this weekend.

You wouldn’t know it from how much we talk about cookies, but Birchbox staffers are a pretty healthy bunch. We love our veggies and mind-clearing workouts, and are always up to try the latest fitness class or nutrition bar. Check back weekly for our Well-Balanced columns, with the latest in food, fitness, and more.
Wellness essentials, clockwise from top left: awesome gear (love my fuchsia New Balance Minimus kicks); fun healthy food (purple cauliflower!); friends (team Birchbox workday workouts); and motivation (my Jawbone UP knows how much I move and sleep).
Every January, gyms and juice cleanses capitalize on the fact that most of us are feeling newly energized and ready to make a change, whether that means losing ten pounds or cutting out refined sugars. The problem is, those changes don’t usually make it past January. Over the years, I’ve made and broken a million resolutions (wellness and otherwise) and I’ve come to a few conclusions: keep your goals small and achievable, build in rewards, and be nice to yourself. Here are some of my best tips for keeping that New Year energy going well past January.
I love brands with a good back story, and it doesn’t get much better than Harvey Prince. Here’s the Cliff’s Notes version: brothers Shaan Hathiramani and Raj Hathiramani create a scent for their mother; mom loves scent; scent explodes into an international fragrance business. Sheesh, the best present I ever gave my mom was an iPad.
Beyond making legions of kids feel like inadequate parental parent-gifters, Harvey Prince is all about creating functional fragrances. (Read: scents that do more than smell nice.) Their first creation, Ageless, features notes designed to make you feel more youthful; Eau Flirt sneakily includes ingredients proven to attract the opposite sex; and Hello has layers of optimistic citrus and florals.
Remember those red and yellow lava lamps they sold in mall gift shops back in the 90s? I really sort of loved them. For all their kitschy and hilarious tendencies, I was always transfixed when I would watch those pretty orbs of color gently floating up and down. Which is why I got excited when I found an unexpected haircare star that bears a striking resemblance to the ill-fated lighting devices: Ojon’s rare blend™ oil Total Hair Therapy.
I’ve been eyeing this futuristic three-tiered oil ever since it landed in the Birchbox Shop. Not only does the strikingly colored bottle look awesome (and hit those nostalgic heart strings for me), it really works to restore damaged hair—and some of you will have the chance to try it yourselves in this month’s Birchbox!
