I worked as a food editor for a few years, which was just as fun as it sounds. I ate ridiculous meals, chatted with up-and-coming chefs and drank a lot of delicious cocktails. These days, my eating and drinking habits still err on the gluttonous side, and are only exacerbated by the fact that New Yorkers seem to consider wine a food group. In a bid to reset my system and shake off lingering December sluggishness, I’ve decided to take a break from alcohol this month.
For many people, this may not seem like a big deal, but for me it’ll drastically alter my social life. Instead of ordering a Manhattan, I’ll be sipping on club soda. Instead of planning boozy dinner parties, I’ll have to invite friends for tea. But I have a game plan. I’m telling one person I know (including you!) to keep me honest. I’m going to stock up on artisanal syrups to make my club soda more interesting, and experiment with exciting alcohol-free cocktails.
That first glass of wine in February is going to be mind-blowing.
