Polished and Pretty: Guest Blogger

We’re always looking for good sartorial inspiration, which is why we regularly turn to PR exec Jaimen Sfetko’s Tumblr, Jaimen Lee. Documenting her own stellar (and quirky cool) style, Sfetko gives us a daily dose of outfit envy — and has us wishing she did costume changes throughout the day. Naturally, we’re curious about the savvy New Yorker’s product picks, too. This week, Sfetko is guest blogging about her beauty musts. Today:

Given the NYFW just ended, let’s take a moment to check out the smallest, and often most anticipated, detail on the runways: nails! While some season’s see a predominant trend or color among a majority of shows, this season proved to be a quirkier mixed bag. BCBG Max Azria, for example, was all about neutral pinks; Erickson Beamon's show featured a different bright shade on each nail, and Nicole Miller mastered the checkerboard nails in rich blue and hot pink shades. Inspired by all the cool looks for spring 2012, I’ve rounded up three easy things you can do to your nails to be on trend:

1. Press and Go: I’m not talking about the first pair of fake nails you purchased at age six only to find out that they wouldn’t stay on for more than an hour. These Incoco Nail Polish Appliques are strips of actual polish that come dry to the touch and are easily pressed onto your nails. Not only do they last for two weeks, but they come pre-shaped so you can easily achieve a smooth manicure. I love their variety of neutrals for everyday and the leopard print is pretty amazing, too!
2. The Nothing Nail: If you’re like me, you have polish on every single day. Every once and a while, you should give your nails a nice vacation filled with sun and fresh air — it’s good for them.  When I do go sans polish, I always make sure to clean up my cuticles and give them a nice buff so they actually look decent. I love this travel manicure set from Japonesque as it’s easy to throw in a bag and fix hang nails as soon as they appear.
3. Greens and Golds: I’m a big red, pink, and off-white kind of girl, but I love experimenting with fun shades. Right now, I’m really into greens and golds. Zoya’s polishes are really long-wearing and their soft green shade, Gemma, and shimmery metallic, Jules, are my current favorites.

What are your favorite nail trends right now?

Never forget the importance of a good base and top coat!

So you’re stuck on a deserted island…: Guest Blogger

We’re always looking for good sartorial inspiration, which is why we regularly turn to PR exec Jaimen Sfetko’s Tumblr, Jaimen Lee. This question always comes up during awkward first dates but…If you’re stuck on a deserted island, what are the three products you should have? Well, if I were stuck on a deserted island, there would be no one to impress, so technically, I guess I wouldn’t need much beyond a pair of glasses and a swimsuit. But let’s imagine you need to look HOT — like HAWT — on said island for a magical merman is about to wash ashore.

1. Toothpaste: Despite not kissing anyone until the merman comes to your rescue, brushing your teeth is important. Remember when Tom Hanks had to pull out his tooth on Castaway? This is a serious example when pain doesn’t equate to beauty. Brush Yo Teefff. Oh and while you’re at it, you might as well gently whiten while you wait for your Prince Charming. I adore Marvis Gentle Whitening Toothpaste because it freshens, whitens, and ensures healthy teeth all at once!

2. Mascara: I think everyone knows the importance of mascara, right? I have the lightest lashes ever so even just a coat of mascara does amazing things to frame the face and open up the eyes. I like BADgal because not only does it do the job but it’s name is also quite representative of what you’d be if you were surviving on a deserted island…right?

3. SPF + Makeup = YEA! We’ve heard soooo much about the importance of SPF all ourlives. For oily girls like myself, something that covers and protects like this AMAZING brush-on powder from Colorescience is quite amazing.

4. Cargo Bronzer: This Cargo bronzer functions as a blush, all over bronzer, eye shadow and heck, mixed with berries from the island — a lipstick. I love Cargo’s whole line of products but their bronzer by far is my favorite from the line.

Getting Lippy for Fall: Guest Blogger

We’re always looking for good sartorial inspiration, which is why we regularly turn to PR exec Jaimen Sfetko’s Tumblr, Jaimen Lee. Naturally, we’re curious about the savvy New Yorker’s product picks, too. This week, Sfetko is guest blogging about her beauty musts. Today: having fun with fall lipcolor!

Ah fall, the time we all realize this pale shade we’re seeing on our skin is not the result of an unclean bathroom mirror, but rather the reality of the shade we’ll be living with for at least the next six months. Herein lies the miracle of lipstick. It comes to our rescue and instantly brightens our faces and leaves us feeling more than chic! Here are the shades I’m digging right now. Pair them with a pinky-red blush or even tons of bronzer to balance the effect and you’re golden (get it?).

1. Deep Red: This shade says, I’m serious annnnddd cute!

2. Non-lipstick lipstick: Everyone is obsessed with Nars Orgasm and rightfully so. Since the original blush, the brand has come out with multiple variations, including this NARS Orgasm Illuminator. I know this would typically be used for the cheeks but I’m telling you, a quick brush across the lips gives just enough color when you’re feeling a bit sallow.

3. Turn on the Bright: When a subtle shade or something more mature or dark just doesn’t cut it, go for bright. Lip pencils are amazing: They make application easy no matter where you are, and add so much brightness to the face. They give a jolt to your mood!
