I’m a professional photographer and I love Instagram. Thanks to the ingenious app, I can check out what’s cooking in April Bloomfield’s kitchen or see how my pal’s holiday is shaping up. Sure, I have fancy cameras for work and a little point and shoot for recreational purposes, but most of my day-to-day snaps are taken with my iPhone and uploaded straight to the site. When budding photographers want to talk cameras and equipment, I always tell them the tools don’t make the photo. Naturally, there are benefits of better, longer lenses and good camera bodies, but none of that will help you catch what Henri Cartier Bresson called the “decisive moment.” A moment is a moment, you either see it and it moves you to click, or you don’t.

We’ve avoided houseplants in the past (NYC apartments are crammed enough as is), but The Sill is changing the way that we buy and display greenery. The start-up specializes in appropriately city-size (read: small) succulents and plants. In honor of our recently launched Birchbox Home: From the Garden collection, we asked Eliza, the company’s founder, and Erin, the social media manager, to bring their plant know-how to our blog.
We can’t get enough of all the gorgeous greenery we see on café window sills or in our favorite catelogs, so we decided to go on a little treasure hunt to show off some of our favorite houseplant shots. We found these ones on Instagram featuring organic filters and unique planters:

You might have noticed (since we know you read every single one of our blog posts religiously) that this week’s guest blogger is The Sill—a start-up specializing in city-size (read: small) succulents and plants. Not only will they be appearing on the blog until Monday, this Saturday they’ll also be taking over our Instagram!
