5 Things You Need to Celebrate Independence Day in Style!

Growing up, Independence Day ranked pretty high on the scale of awesome holidays for me. First of all, the weather’s (usually) gorgeous, there’s no school looming for another two months, and there’s always an overabundance of barbecues, picnics and general debauchery, followed by the kicker…fireworks. Now that I’m a bit older, it’s still a favorite holiday but I’m thinking more about surviving the heat and keeping sunburns at bay until fireworks time! Here are a few of the necessities I’ll be keeping on hand this weekend.

1. A cute, airy dress: Eschew traditional red, white, and blue (you don’t want to end up like this) and go for a cute summer dress that will keep you cool and let you partake of all the festivities. Electric Ikat Silk Dress; Madewell; $145

2. A cooler that looks like a messenger bag: Arrive at the picnic in style AND delight your friends with this cooler tote that opens up to reveal space for food and drink, glasses, plates, and silverware. Element Picnic Cooler Tote; Target; $50

3. A sweet, easy lip tint: This lip treatment from Fresh applies like a chapstick, keeps your lips even more moisturized, and looks sweetly pink, without being overdone for daytime. Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment; Fresh; $23

4. A smudge-proof liner: Summer holidays demand low-maintenance makeup- but we still like to get a bit glammed up. That means we’re rocking Stila’s no-budge, sweat proof liner with a tiny cat eye. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner;Birchbox; $20

5. A little insurance in the form of a great sunscreen: Don’t get so excited about the fireworks that you forget the most important step— a little protection! Slather on this bad boy- spf 50 (yes, we’re hardcore about not getting sunburns) and go get some Vitamin D. Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+; Birchbox; $34

Happy Independence Day, have a wonderful weekend! (oh, and any Canadian readers have a wonderful Canada Day today!)
