Can we go ahead and call it? Thanksgiving is the most epic of holidays. It’s one of the only times when eating as much as possible is not only acceptable behavior but downright celebrated. The only downside is that all that stuffing tends to leave us, well, stuffed. Before you bid a tearful goodbye to your skinny jeans forever or opt for more drastic measures, turn to this roundup for a little wellness inspiration. Our detox menu will blast away bloat and ensure you kick off the approaching New Year (yeah, remember resolutions?) as the picture of good health.
1. Take 10
Think staying healthy requires a hefty time commitment? Think again. Each of these wellness breaks only takes ten minutes or less to complete. Make them a part of your daily routine, and we guarantee you’ll see a difference, inside and out.
2. Take it to the Streets
And by streets, we of course mean taking your fitness quest to the great outdoors. When temperatures plummet, runners fall in one of two categories: those who resign themselves to the treadmill, and those who layer up and tough it out. Planning to brave the elements? Here’s a checklist of the apparel, equipment, and grooming goods you’ll need.
3. Hunker Down
Often, it’s not a lack of will power but a lack of free time that keeps us from our daily sweat sesh. The solution? Maintain a small, well-curated collection of tools and weapons for your touch screen that will actually serve you well. Here are seven of our favorite apps to help you streamline your routine and simplify your life.
4. Workout, Anywhere

Overbooked flights. Train delays. Stinky seatmates. No one said holiday travel was easy, but it would be nice if it didn’t crush your body as well as your spirit. We asked Melisse Gelula, wellness expert and co-founder of Well+Good NYC, for advice on how to stay happy and healthy during the busiest travel season. Turns out it’s easier than you think.
Eat at home beforehand
“You’re surrounded by high-carb, prepackaged foods at airports and train stations,” says Gelula. “So I eat a really healthy meal at home beforehand, like a kale salad with avocado and almonds.” A light, well-balanced meal will curb the impulse to reach for that in-flight Chex Mix freebie. To satisfy a mid-journey snack attack, reach for smart-but-tasty option like Lärabar’s ϋber bar.

I’m off! This morning I’m heading up to my parent’s in Maine, where there is a yellow lab waiting for me. Cue “All I Want For Christmas,” please. In classic me fashion, my packing went something like this: neatly folder layer of sweaters and jeans in the bottom of my suitcase; scattered, oddly sized presents piled on top; almost-forgotten beauty product presents wedged into empty nooks; big tote bag filled with everything that wouldn’t fit (including beef jerky, you’re welcome dad, and the odd kumquat); and a last-minute dash back to my apartment for my cell phone. Ah, holiday travel.
As for beauty products, I tried to streamline. Here are the star products I’m toting:
Befine Exfoliating Cleanser: I’ve been loving this cleanser lately. The brown sugar is a really gentle way to get rid of dead cells (so important during the winter) and because it has almond and rice bran oil it makes my face feel super moisturized. Plus, two-in-one for travel = no brainer.
NARS The Multiple in South Beach: Another multi-tasker. Blush and highlighter in one - it’s the only (well, almost) color product I need.
Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint in Golden: It’s been awhile since I’ve really loved a tinted moisturizer (most are pretty uninspiring) but this one gives smooth, natural-looking coverage without feeling heavy. It has the barest shimmer that makes you look healthy even if you’re feeling dull. I skip powder and I haven’t had any problems with feeling shiny (that has a lot to do with winter but still).
Bobbi Brown Day to Night Warm Palette: It’s Maine, so makeup is really a non-issue. Except for the Christmas Eve and Day festivities. This neutral palette keeps it simple and is easy to throw in a makeup bag.
Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Vixen Red: It is the holidays, after all.
Naturally, I also threw in a few handy samples from the Birchbox closet, including the Jouer Moisturizing Gloss in Glisten (I’m addicted and a mini of Perricone MD Cold Plasma. Safe travels, everyone!
