How To: The Updated Holiday Updo
You’d think that after several years as a beauty editor, I would be a pro at trying out new hairstyles. The truth is, I tend to stick with a handful of standby styles. But now that the holidays are in full swing, I have plenty of opportunities (read: P-A-R-T-I-E-S) to expand my horizons. Next on my list to try: This elegant updo as demonstrated by our equally elegant staffer, Lorelei.
Great for medium to long hair, this look is perfectly polished without being the least bit severe. It’s the sort of ‘do that instantly dresses you up—I can see myself rocking it both in the evenings with a cocktail dress or during the day with a skirt and heels. I’m also newly into adding sparkly adornments to hair (very ’90s of me, I know). But seriously, when done in moderation, I love a bit of festive flair. Lo’s pretty pin works especially well towards the back of the head, but I’m also fond of these smaller sparklers from L.Erikson that are delicate enough to frame your face.

Can we go ahead and call it? Thanksgiving is the most epic of holidays. It’s one of the only times when eating as much as possible is not only acceptable behavior but downright celebrated. The only downside is that all that stuffing tends to leave us, well, stuffed. Before you bid a tearful goodbye to your skinny jeans forever or opt for more drastic measures, turn to this roundup for a little wellness inspiration. Our detox menu will blast away bloat and ensure you kick off the approaching New Year (yeah, remember resolutions?) as the picture of good health.
1. Take 10
Think staying healthy requires a hefty time commitment? Think again. Each of these wellness breaks only takes ten minutes or less to complete. Make them a part of your daily routine, and we guarantee you’ll see a difference, inside and out.
2. Take it to the Streets
And by streets, we of course mean taking your fitness quest to the great outdoors. When temperatures plummet, runners fall in one of two categories: those who resign themselves to the treadmill, and those who layer up and tough it out. Planning to brave the elements? Here’s a checklist of the apparel, equipment, and grooming goods you’ll need.
3. Hunker Down
Often, it’s not a lack of will power but a lack of free time that keeps us from our daily sweat sesh. The solution? Maintain a small, well-curated collection of tools and weapons for your touch screen that will actually serve you well. Here are seven of our favorite apps to help you streamline your routine and simplify your life.
4. Workout, Anywhere
There’s no need to abandon your exercise while traveling. These easy poses by yoga rebel Tara Stiles, founder of New York studio Strala Yoga, will help you de-stress, beat jet lag, recover from plane-induced tummy troubles, and more. Best of all, you can do them anywhere—even a tiny hotel room.
5. Get Your Chocolate Fix
Who says healthy foods can’t taste good? Created by Dr. Lipman and goop, this rich smoothie combines raw cacao (yes, chocolate), honey, and a couple secret ingredients. Find out how to make this creamy treat and why it’s so good for you.

Don’t get us wrong, we love the holidays. It’s just that between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve, we tend to act like a college senior during finals week—we eat too much, sleep too little, and end up starting the new year on the very wrong foot.
Determined to not spend next month in a ball of blankets, here’s our plan for beating the seven deadly sins of the holidays.

Today, I’m hopping on a plane and heading to Ecuador’s hermoso capital city Quito for a dear friend’s wedding. In addition to comfy walking shoes (I plan to do a lot of solo exploring) and my trusty passport, here are some of the travel must-haves I’ll be stashing in my carry-on:
1. Oscar de la Renta Something Blue
According to our friends at The Knot, it’s a faux pas to attend a wedding empty handed. With that in mind, I’m packing this timeless scent to hand over to the bride-to-be on the big day. Inspired by the iconic designer’s silk and lace wedding gowns, the refined blend has sparkling notes of mandarin, linden blossom, and bourbon vanilla.
We hope you’re having a fantastic holiday with your loved ones!
You may notice that we’re posting a little less than we normally do this week. But don’t worry, we’ll be back in full swing after New Year’s with even more blog awesome-sauce.
It can be a bit of a black hole trying to sort through all the anti-aging beauty products on the market. That’s why we look to the all-knowing Jonell Copeland, the editor of the Ageist Beauty, a blog that focuses on dishing out beauty advice to ladies aged 35-50. This week, she’s giving us all the deets on her holiday season musts!
A red lip is an easy way to add a bit of holiday flair, sophistication and fun to your look. It can be universally flattering, if you choose the right lipstick.

Eek, it’s the final hour for gift-finding! Just in case you still haven’t found presents for your loved ones, here’s some last-minute inspiration courtesy of our staffers. Today, our Director of Editorial Operations, Bene is sharing her top 5 picks for her dad. (December 19th—today!—is the last day to order from our Shop to receive your orders by December 24. Go now!)
1. PRORASO Shaving Cream
As soon as I saw this concentrated, creamy soap highlighted in a Birchbox Man video, I knew my dad would dig it. It’s emblematic of Italian style (just like Pops!) and will look great in the ceramic shaving cup he inherited from my grandfather, who owned a barbershop.
'Tis the season of decadent desserts and food! There's no better way to celebrate the holidays with your families than with delicious chocolate, which is why we asked you in early December to tell us your favorite cocoa-based recipes. We have to admit, it was very difficult to choose amongst your submissions—chocolate is our all-time favorite! In the end, though, we picked one recipe that we can’t wait to whip up and enjoy next to a fire:
