We’re guilty of sticking with the same hair cut for years — if it’s not broke, why fix it? — but that can be a little boring. But not everyone has our issue. Paulina, one of our amazing operations associates, is always eyeing new cuts and styles. She’ll be sharing her tress inspiration and tips every other week here in her column, Hairistocracy.

I’ve got a major thing for this season’s latest floral headdresses and headpieces. We’ve been seeing them all over the Cannes red carpets and I think this trend will be sticking around all summer.

Over the past couple weeks, we’ve all had our eyes on Bianca’s new look. I finally sat her down this week to find out what “going natural” is really all about. Read on to get the details on our beautiful girl’s transition!
How long had you been relaxing your hair?
My first relaxer was at age 18—I’ve gotten them on and off since then.
When did you stop relaxing your hair and start going natural?
I really kicked off this transition 14 months ago when I made the decision to stop using a relaxer. Since then, I flat ironed my hair weekly, but even cut this out two months ago when I realized my natural curl was being jeopardized by the heat.

Whether it’s twist-tight ringlets, frizzy waves, or tense tresses, curly haired girls have plenty to stress about. And most of us have stories of the crazy lengths we’ve gone to for curly hair perfection. This week’s post is inspired by Ouidad’s hilarious new ad for how to get frizz-free curls. Almost as important as how well a hair product works is how it smells. Of all the products I’ve ever tried, here are my five absolute favorites:

For weeks, New York City taxicabs have showcased my latest obsession over and over again via the passengers’ TV monitor: Guess’ spring ad campaign starring Amber Heard.
The actress is up-and-coming and you may know her from The Rum Diaries with Johnny Depp. In the Guess spot, she’s sporting the most amazing platinum blonde strands, which are no doubt Monroe-inspired given that the whole world is having a renewed love affair with the icon these days. I have a secret hair growth confession.
When I went for my last trim 6 months ago—which to my dismay ended up being a major chop—I begged my SoHo hairdresser with teary eyes for a hush-hush growth product that only stylists know about.

It’s been two months since my little dye-job, and now I’m coming to terms with something that’s tough to talk about, but has everything to do with coloring. I’m graying.
Slowly but surely, I’m getting a little silver and I owe it all to genetics. Now that my recent dye is starting to fade, I’ve been debating a tough decision: do I continue to cover the grays or should I experiment with a little salt and pepper?

My latest hair obsession is in!
You’ve probably seen photos of turban-style headbands sported throughout the decades and as a hot accessory from last spring, but now the look is coming back around again. This modern twist on Audrey Hepburn’s look from Sabrina (1954) is a sweet, sexy band that wraps around the forehead and lays on top of the hair. It’s a totally natural and chic style. Her latest hair obsession: virgin coconut oil!

Months ago, my best friend told me to get my hands on some virgin coconut oil from Wholefoods. She’s been coloring her hair for years and swears that applying this natural remedy to strands overnight restores her dye-damaged hair back to the softness she has as a little girl.
I’ve been looking for a major moisture boost ever since I colored my hair for the first time a couple weeks ago. My virgin hair had been bouncy and shiny and I have not enjoyed my new dry and brittle texture. So I took my friend’s advice and popped for some virgin coconut oil and all I can say is wow. She was right. If your hair is feeling a little (or a lot!) on the parched side, follow these s simple directions once a month and reap the benefits of added moisture, protection from breakage, and possibly even hair growth!

Her latest hair obsession: ombre!

Before (left) with a single color and after (right) with ombre hair.
About two weeks ago, I got the itch to seriously change up my style. Since I’m growing out my hair and that limits what I can do cut-wise, it dawned on me that it was finally time to change my color. I have never, I repeat never, dyed my hair before so this was a big step for me.
