This season, the most in-demand styles all channel our inner ’60s and ’70s hippie-chic hottie and one of the hottest trends is feather extensions. Summers in Chicago are known for being full of outdoor concerts and I can already see this look becoming a staple for festival goers. Get one or experiment with whole bunch, and you can pick them up from Birchbox’s website with the installation tool
Your feathers and hair need extra nourishment when heat and humidity are on the rise—be sure to try Amika’s Obliphica Hair Treatment.

We haven’t completely moved on from nail art yet, but there is a new topic occupying a good portion of our conversations here at Birchbox: Hair feathers. Yes, we are totally serious. And they’re cool. So cool, in fact, that we are dedicating an entire feature article to the topic next month. To research the story, we asked Fine Featherheads, based in Colorado, to send us a couple “featherheads” (the name for each extension, which contains about six long individual feathers) to try. Our first test subject was assistant editor Lorelei who is now looking so chic with a yellowy golden set of feathers peeking out through her blonde locks. Installation surprisingly easy: the feathers come with a special tool kit that includes plyers, a sectioning hair tool, and some specially designed silicone beads. (And, of course, you need a willing participant—we have a plethora). If you’re interested in exactly how to get the look, click here to watch a very helpful and straightforward installation video. Trust us, these are the new It thing. And if you don’t believe us, just look at this picture of Hilary Duff.
