Polished and Pretty: Guest Blogger

We’re always looking for good sartorial inspiration, which is why we regularly turn to PR exec Jaimen Sfetko’s Tumblr, Jaimen Lee. Documenting her own stellar (and quirky cool) style, Sfetko gives us a daily dose of outfit envy — and has us wishing she did costume changes throughout the day. Naturally, we’re curious about the savvy New Yorker’s product picks, too. This week, Sfetko is guest blogging about her beauty musts. Today:

Given the NYFW just ended, let’s take a moment to check out the smallest, and often most anticipated, detail on the runways: nails! While some season’s see a predominant trend or color among a majority of shows, this season proved to be a quirkier mixed bag. BCBG Max Azria, for example, was all about neutral pinks; Erickson Beamon's show featured a different bright shade on each nail, and Nicole Miller mastered the checkerboard nails in rich blue and hot pink shades. Inspired by all the cool looks for spring 2012, I’ve rounded up three easy things you can do to your nails to be on trend:

1. Press and Go: I’m not talking about the first pair of fake nails you purchased at age six only to find out that they wouldn’t stay on for more than an hour. These Incoco Nail Polish Appliques are strips of actual polish that come dry to the touch and are easily pressed onto your nails. Not only do they last for two weeks, but they come pre-shaped so you can easily achieve a smooth manicure. I love their variety of neutrals for everyday and the leopard print is pretty amazing, too!
2. The Nothing Nail: If you’re like me, you have polish on every single day. Every once and a while, you should give your nails a nice vacation filled with sun and fresh air — it’s good for them.  When I do go sans polish, I always make sure to clean up my cuticles and give them a nice buff so they actually look decent. I love this travel manicure set from Japonesque as it’s easy to throw in a bag and fix hang nails as soon as they appear.
3. Greens and Golds: I’m a big red, pink, and off-white kind of girl, but I love experimenting with fun shades. Right now, I’m really into greens and golds. Zoya’s polishes are really long-wearing and their soft green shade, Gemma, and shimmery metallic, Jules, are my current favorites.

What are your favorite nail trends right now?

Never forget the importance of a good base and top coat!

Getting Lippy for Fall: Guest Blogger

We’re always looking for good sartorial inspiration, which is why we regularly turn to PR exec Jaimen Sfetko’s Tumblr, Jaimen Lee. Naturally, we’re curious about the savvy New Yorker’s product picks, too. This week, Sfetko is guest blogging about her beauty musts. Today: having fun with fall lipcolor!

Ah fall, the time we all realize this pale shade we’re seeing on our skin is not the result of an unclean bathroom mirror, but rather the reality of the shade we’ll be living with for at least the next six months. Herein lies the miracle of lipstick. It comes to our rescue and instantly brightens our faces and leaves us feeling more than chic! Here are the shades I’m digging right now. Pair them with a pinky-red blush or even tons of bronzer to balance the effect and you’re golden (get it?).

1. Deep Red: This shade says, I’m serious annnnddd cute!

2. Non-lipstick lipstick: Everyone is obsessed with Nars Orgasm and rightfully so. Since the original blush, the brand has come out with multiple variations, including this NARS Orgasm Illuminator. I know this would typically be used for the cheeks but I’m telling you, a quick brush across the lips gives just enough color when you’re feeling a bit sallow.

3. Turn on the Bright: When a subtle shade or something more mature or dark just doesn’t cut it, go for bright. Lip pencils are amazing: They make application easy no matter where you are, and add so much brightness to the face. They give a jolt to your mood!

Guest Blogger: Top 5 Fall Beauty Trends

A style force to be reckoned with, Sara Zucker is well known for providing daily outfit inspiration and scoping out incredible finds via her Tumblr, Farpitzs (which is the Yiddish word for ‘all dressed up,’ just in case you were curious). As if being one of the most popular fashion voices in the blogosphere wasn’t time consuming enough, the well-heeled trendsetter also happens to be Glamour magazine’s community manager. Lucky for us, she was able to make some time in her busy schedule to guest blog for us this week. Check back daily as Zucker shares everything from her favorite fall trends to what’s in her cosmetics bag.

Sure, it’s 90 degrees outside, but stores are beginning to put fall merchandise into full view. It is so strange to be pulling on tank tops and tiny shorts to avoid sweating on the subway and then suddenly, it’s time to start thinking about next season! By September, I have finally come to grips with the inevitable cooler temperatures and when the foliage starts to change, so does my beauty routine. I reflect the chillier weather in the nail colors that I wear by veering toward shimmery jewel tones like plum, emerald, and navy blue. And since my wardrobe perpetually borders on neutral overload, a deep saturated lip color is the perfect way to add brightness to any gray, black, tan, or ivory look I create.

Another major necessity for fall? A berry-hued cheek stain like RMS Beauty’s Lip2Cheek in Promise

Guest Blogger: My Favorite Cosmetic Bags

Clockwise from top: Orla Kiely, $110, endless.com; The SAK, $24, amazon.com; Mulberry, $130, mulberry.com; Julie Apple, $28, amazon.com

I don’t travel much, but when I do, my favorite tip is to use a cosmetic bag as a clutch. It cuts down on the amount that you need to pack, there are so many different styles on the market, and by doubling its use, I don’t mind spending a bit more on one (though you can easily snag them for free with purchase at many beauty counters in department stores). My favorites are punchy, patterned versions that add an instant pop of personality to any outfit.

We love bright makeup bags, too. Check out some of our faves here.

Guest Blogger: Inspired by Balmain

For a beauty look that is simple to recreate and on-trend for the season, I looked toward the Balmain spring 2011 runway. The brand is known for its bad-ass leather pieces, but the models were painted in tame, ultra-wearable cosmetic colors. Hair was kept sleek and smooth in order to highlight the main event: the eyes. To create something similar to the Balmain catwalkers, use a lash conditioner to encourage eyelash growth, brush lashes with a few coats of voluminous black mascara, and add a shimmery, champagne-colored shadow.
