Today’s Obsession: Guerlain’s New Holiday Color Collection 2012

Some bundles of joy arrive via the stork—ours come courtesy of legendary Parisian brand Guerlain.

Milestones aside, two things always make the content team gush with excitement: when someone brings an extra special accessory to work (adorable children!) or when a package of new beauty goods arrives. Last week, a chic Guerlain bag filled with new products landed on our desks and quite frankly, there was so much ooh-ing and aah-ing you would’ve thought we’d landed in the newborn section of a hospital.

Inside the package was Guerlain’s coveted Holiday Color Collection 2012—a gorgeous mix of luxe nail lacquers, dreamy makeup palettes and so much more. Inspired by Liu, the doomed heroine of a classic Puccini opera, the collection features an elaborate Asian-inspired color scheme that includes deep plums and luminous golds. Here are our top picks from the line that’s hitting Saks Fifth Avenue this October:

How Much Makeup Do You Have in Your Purse?: Guest Blogger

We’re a tiny bit in love with Shyema Azam’s blog, Beauty and the Feast. The freelance editor and writer—who’s worked for publications like Marie Claire, Allure and Harper’s Bazaar—writes about her everyday discoveries in the food and beauty world, often accompanying her posts with envy-inducing photos. Stay tuned all week for Shyema’s insider advice! Today, she tells us the product that helps her de-stress and stay zen.

I thought it’d be fun to write a post on, you know, the four or five beauty products I carry around in my purse everyday. But when I dumped out the insides of my bag, I found 18 products that I’ve been toting around! These are my unedited findings:

1. Viviscal and 2. Brightening Formula supplements: There’s just no way for me to remember to take vitamins and supplements unless I have them on me at all times. I’ve been desperately trying to grow out my hair (I feel like it’s at an awkward length) and this helps. I swear if my skin glows, much of the credit goes to Glisodin supplements.

3. Smith’s Rosebud Salve: The famous moisturizing balm in a convenient tube.

My Daily Makeup Routine: Guest Blogger

Courtne Smith, a.k.a Queen Shmink, is a world traveler with extraordinary fashion and beauty sense. The Toronto-based blogger is one of our favorite ladies to follow on the Interwebz because she makes her impeccable style (fancy fur is her specialty) feel so accessible and easy to recreate. Plus, she always has a killer manicure. This week, she teaches us her secrets that keep her perfectly primped when she’s both at home or on the road with her bff, Drake.

When it comes to my everyday makeup, I tend to keep things pretty simple. If my skin isn’t having ‘a moment,’ I can skip foundation and get away with just dabbing on some concealer and bronzer. But I always make sure to fill my brows and apply a coat of mascaraI definitely feel naked without those. These are the products I use on a daily basis:

No face is complete without bronzer. A faux glow brightens up a dull visage, and gives your face instant warmth. I prefer matte bronzers during the fall and winter, and shimmer during the summer or when I have an amazing tan. Sometimes, I even dust a matte bronzer over my entire face and use the shimmer bronzer as a highlighter.

You Shouldn’t Sleep in Your Makeup…

…but if you were to happen to maybe have too much punch on New Year’s Eve and maybe forget to properly remove your makeup before falling into bed, these products would be so long-wearing that they wouldn’t smudge even as you snored:

Too Faced Primed and Poreless: Helped my makeup go on, helped it stay on. Woke up bleary-eyed and puffy, but with still smooth-looking foundation. How ever did that happen?

Smashbox High Definition Healthy FX Foundation: I’m not a foundation girl but, you know, it was New Year’s Eve. Makeup artists say this is a good product for tinted moisturizer fans because it’s practically weightless. I love how it blends in and doesn’t leave any streaky marks.

Guerlain Liquid Liner: Truly a miracle that this lasted from 7pm to 9am, without even a smudge.

Jouer Moisturizing Gloss in Glisten: Nah, this didn’t stay on my lips. BUT I did find sparkles on my cheeks in the morning. That counts, right?

Just in time: Guerlain Midnight Star Treatment

Tonight is our Birchbox launch party (yay!), which is going to be fabulous. But, with all the planning and, you know, working at a startup, none of us are feeling particularly fab. Happily my friend Nicole at Guerlain sent over their new Midnight Star Extraordinary Radiance Treatment, which seems to be tailor-made for girls who work hard and play hard. The treatment is essentially a combo serum and primer that is designed to perk up, prettify, tone, and generally rescue tired skin. It comes in handy one-dose ampules that are great for throwing in a makeup bag or carry on. All you do is twist off the top of the ampule and rub it all over clean or moisturized skin — the gel-like serum dries smooth and matte and gives skin a slightly pearlized finish. The treatment also claims to have detoxifying ingredients that mitigate the effects of too much partying — this sounds too good to be true but I’m willing to test it out. Anything for skincare science, right? Either way, these little guys are my new best friends.
