As much as we love nail art, we’re better at admiring designs than coming up with them ourselves. That’s why we’ve enlisted Anna Norman, the smarty pants behind Glitter, She Wrote, to be a regular contributor. Every Monday, she’ll be sharing her latest lacquer inspiration—you won’t be satisfied with plain ol’ polish again.
If you’re like much of the country (and world!), you’re a little Olympics-crazy right now. All eyes were on the women’s gymnastics competition, and the super-human flips and raw emotion made it hard to look away. After gold medalist Gabby Douglas captured our collective hearts, I knew I had to take inspiration from the medal stand and put it onto my nails. A lot of the Olympic-themed manis I’ve been seeing require serious nail art skill (5 Olympic rings painted on your pinky finger, anyone?), so I’m showing my Team USA pride this week with a simple gold medal mani that anyone can totally pull off—no Olympic-level skills required.

More news from the Shiseido front, but in an ultra-luxury vein as opposed to the brand’s recent retrospective art exhibit in Paris. Now, the Japanese skincare powerhouse is releasing “La Creme,” an extremely limited edition face cream, in honor of its 140th anniversary. The product will be a part of the brand’s most high-end line, Clé de Peau, and will cost a whopping $13,300 for a single container (which, FYI, means that each gram of product costs roughly $265—which is more expensive than gold).
Earlier this week, I was having discussion with co-workers about holiday makeup and my input was this: Come December, all I see is red and sparkly. As much as I love experimenting with other colors during the rest of the year, during the holiday season I crave the glamorous classics. Since Chanel always seems to know what a girl wants (how do they do it?), I knew they’d have a wow holiday lineup in store. The 11-product collection is everything I’ve been dreaming of, and more. Some of the highlights: a luminous red polish named Rouge Carat, a perfect candy-apple-hued lipstick called Famous, a gold liquid liner named Or, and gilded shimmer gloss called Sparkle D’Or. Creating a holiday wish list has never been so easy.
If you can’t wait for the Chanel shade, get a similar red hot color from Deborah Lippmann.
