Doing your hair can be a challenge and let’s face it: Throwing it up into a topknot every day gets boring. Christina over at Hair Romance believes your hair is your best accessory and it should always be treated at such. This week, she’s sharing all her best tips and tricks to make every day a good hair day.
Braids are one of the hottest hair trends and seen on catwalks all over the world during fashion week. From the basic braid seen atValentinoin Paris to the crown braids atAlice + Oliviain New York, braids are the “it” hairstyle you have to try right now.
Above is a selection of four of my favorite braids and here are links to tutorials for each:
If you’re anything like me, you probably get into a hair rut every once in a while. Working at a beauty company certainly makes it easier to find hair inspiration, but week after week I still find myself sporting the same styles 90 percent of the time: down and slightly messy, or up in a ponytail. For May, I’m aiming to expand my hair horizons with some new work-appropriate styles. Keep reading for five of my favorite hair tutorials, featuring styles you can easily do before rushing out the door in the morning.
The French Fishtail Braid
The French braid is soooo over—it’s all about the French fishtail now. Just kidding, but this style is dressy and easier than it looks (plus, it will have your coworkers complimenting you on your creativity).
The Princess Roll
Equally cute for work and a dinner with your parents, this style is a crowd-pleaser in the Birchbox office. Bonus: Remove the roll at the end of the day for happy-hour ready soft waves.
There are so many amazing videos on YouTube, we have a hard time keeping up with all of them. You name it, there’s a video about it. Wondering how to turn flat, limp strands into sexy supermodel hair? There’s a video for that. Always wanted to see what a moonwalking pony would look like? There’s a video for that. That’s why we’ve decided to choose one video a week to share with you. Keep reading for this week’s pick.
This week we’re sharing this awesome Cute Girls Hairstyles braided hair tutorial. The finished style looks very elaborate and complicated. Turns out, all you need to do is separate the hair at the crown of the head and french braid in a circular path. This is by far one of the prettiest french braids I’ve ever seen and is a lot easier to achieve than it looks.
What do you think? Could this be the new milkmaid braid?
The flirty days of spring and summer may be far behind us, but no one—least of all the Birchbox team!—seems ready to give up on the braid trend. Our friends at JolieBox obviously feel the same, as evidenced by Malvina’s crazy awesome revamped French braid below.
Mathilde says: "We love to give the traditional French braid a bit of a twist!"
It’s no secret that we love following celebrity beauty and fashion, whether it’s at awards shows, special events, or just on the street. When we saw the gorgeous braided side pony that Jessica Alba wore to the 2012 Environmental Media Awards popping up all over the interwebs, our DIY radar immediately kicked into high gear. This is a great style for girls with slightly longer hair, and adds a touch of unexpected flirtiness to an otherwise severe look. For this tutorial, we recruited our awesome executive assistant, Kari. Her lovely blonde hair and pretty pink highlights were perfect for recreating the look Birchbox-style! Along with makeup artists, hairstylists rank pretty high on our list of people we’d like to have around all the time. That’s just one reason we’re so excited to have hairstylist Kate Bryan guest blogging for us today. The other reason? We’re obsessed with her blog, The Small Things, which covers beauty, jewelry, and — you guessed it — the small things in life. Check back for her posts all week!
Today I’m going to share one of my favorite hairstyles, the Tucked Away French Braid. This style is perfect for getting some hair out of your face. Plus, braids are so in style right now. Nearly every hair length can attempt this technique, so give it a try!
Opening Ceremony’s second Rodarte collection photos are beyond precious — not just because the twin Dutch models bear a striking resemblance to Elle Fanning, but rather, they’re each donning a unique take on double braids. I usually resort to a Pippi Longstocking-type ‘do in the confines of my own apartment to give my stick-straight hair some kind of wave, but this style just looks so much more wearable and sophisticated. The updos mesh well with the Scandinavian-esque clothing, and while it looks complicated from the front, photos from the back reveal that the look is super simple — just pull each braided pigtail to the top of your head and pin. Undeniably cute.
