We fell hard for Natalie Alcala last fall, when the LA-based writer and blogger spent a week guest blogging for us. In fact, we loved her posts so much that we asked her to be a contributing editor. In addition to blogging for us once a week, she’ll also be writing for the Birchbox Magazine and keeping us up to speed on all things fashion, beauty, and fun.

Besides it being awards season, there’s another reason why this is my favorite time of year: It’s the release of spring ad campaigns! Although I love the bundled up looks for fall, spring collections are always fresh, fun and bursting with brilliance. Plus, I get particularly hyped for the latest ads since the beauty is more experimental as well. From the slick hair and dark lip at Kurt Reiger to the peach lid and nude pout at Max Mara, here are the looks that I’m really feeling for spring.
While the usual low-slung pony is great for day-to-day, holiday party season provides the ideal opportunity to experiment with a different style. That’s why we’ve teamed up with one of our favorite sites, Beauty High. Each week, they’ll be sending over a few runway shots to inspire you to try something new for your upcoming festive fetes.

With holiday season in full swing, having a few go-to hairstyles in your arsenal is pretty essential. Most of us have our favorite bold lipsticks that we keep in our purses to swipe on when we realize we have to run from work (or school) to three different holiday parties, but our hair can be a completely different issue. Luckily, the trends on the fall/winter runways had plenty of different styles to inspire us, from bouffants to braids.
Most of us have been braiding our hair since we were in elementary school, so we immediately took to this trend—and it’s one that has become a runway staple ever since Guido Palau sent girls down Alex Wang’s runway in spring of 2010 with disheveled side braids. This season, we saw the braid take on a few more forms, from the milkmaid to cornrows, and they all work equally well for your holiday activities. Click through to find some inspiration for your packed holiday calendar, and for how to adapt these looks to your off-the-runway life.
