Los Angeles native and USC student Sophie Elkus is a self-described fashion addict. Her blog Angel Food Style is where her joy for putting together the perfect outfit comes to life. And you would think that her fabulous dress sense must come second to her studies, but Sophie proves that having a full schedule doesn’t mean sacrificing style. This week, she’s sharing her favorite beauty and fashion tips for women on-the-go with us on our blog.
I can’t remember the last time I used a JanSport backpack to carry my textbooks and laptop. Why take it back to middle school when you can upgrade to a chic tote or structured satchel? There are so many stylish collegiate accessories on the market that it’s hard to narrow down my search to these few favorites.
We approach scents much like we do our wardrobe: mixing, matching, and rotating fragrances throughout the season. Is it any wonder that our favorite fashion looks tend to influence both our outfits and our spritzes? While reporting at the Fall/Winter 2013 shows, we spotted three trends that we can’t wait to add to our closets. And since we’re never ones to selectively shop, here are the fragrances that will be joining our fragrance wardrobe.
if you’re a compulsive shopper like me, your closet is likely overflowing with cast-offs that haven’t seen the light of day since the Bush administration. I recently made a vow to clean out my closet and make a few extra bucks—call it a New Year’s Resolution if you will. Lucky for me, there are plenty of websites out there that aim to connect motivated sellers with buyers. Read on for a list of my picks, plus tips for maximizing the chances that your clothes will actually sell.
Touring the Ruffian Office
Last week, we had the chance to visit the studio of Ruffian, one of our favorite fashion brands. For years we’ve loved the label and its upscale aesthetic, and their work space certainly didn’t disappoint. Filled with beautiful trinkets, thought-provoking art, sketches galore, and racks of gorgeous garments, we were in heaven. Be on the lookout in 2013 for a special Birchbox/Ruffian collaboration—we guarantee that it’s going to knock your socks off!

If there’s one celebrity I look forward to seeing strut the red carpet, it’s rising star Rita Ora. Her attitude is refreshingly irreverent, and so is her style. As a huge fan of crimson lipstick, I loved that Rita rocked bold red lips on Sunday night at the MTV European Music Awards. I often use red lipstick to brighten up my shadowy fall wardrobe, but Rita’s head-to-toe crimson look inspired me to double down on red.

In the world of high-end fashion, a plus-size model is pretty much any woman who shows the slightest hint of curves—hence why Kate Upton has occasionally been classified in this category. Glossy lady mags and other mainstream media outlets have a bad reputation for over-featuring particularly thin women. If you wear anything above a size 2 (the average American woman is a size 12-14), it can sometimes feel impossible to find a model who shares your body type.
Now a new breed of bloggers are increasing the visibility of plus-size women in fashion. The New York Times reports that independent plus-size fashion bloggers are gaining a following by showcasing their ability to dress in on-trend outfits that show off (rather than hide) their bodies.
