A Balm Arsenal To Fight Dry Lips
So you’re stranded on a desert island, what three things do you wish you had with you? For me, that question has always been easy: water, potatoes, and lip balm. Water is obvious, potatoes are my favorite food (in any form, probably even raw), and, perhaps most important of the three, lip balm is my number one, can’t-go-without beauty must-have.
I have an ever-growing collection of lip balms, which comes in handy when purses turn into black holes or I turn out empty pockets to realize my favorite balm is actually in my other jacket. Luckily, I’m not alone in my obsession.
Fellow lip product-addict and Birchox UK contributing writer Natalie Peck has compiled this list of multifunctional, super-hydrating balms you need to own in order to have a healthy pout.
Are you balm obsessed like we are?

Next week social media intern Julia is heading to Italy, first to Liguria and then Sicily. She’ll be spending time with her family, swimming in the Mediterranean, and of course indulging in lots of focaccia. (Bring us, too!) Here’s what she’s packing in her valigia:
1. Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper: Vacation is when I like to take a break from constantly blow drying and straightening my hair so this curl keeper is the only styling product I am bringing along- it leaves my curls soft and bouncy, plus it doesn’t build up or feel heavy.
In the summer of 1853, a hot tempered chef was manning the kitchen at a chic resort. A dinner guest found the chef’s French fries too thick for his liking and sent the plate back to the kitchen. In an effort to one up the persnickety customer, the chef sliced the potatoes paper-thin. And eureka! America’s favorite salty, snack—duh! the potato chip—was born.
Unexpected discovery of a seriously great thing, right? Like our favorite crunchy fix, these four beauty products have surprising (and totally awesome!) beginnings.
After weeks of worldwide anticipation, this afternoon the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a royal baby boy! We’re so excited for the new parents and send them our hearty congratulations. If we could, we’d also send some handpicked Birchbox-style gifts to help Kate get through her first few weeks of motherhood. From pampering products to multitaskers, here’s what we would bestow upon the duchess.
One of my biggest gripes during the winter is, without a doubt, terribly chapped lips. Even if I do every at-home remedy—use a sugar scrub, exfoliate with a toothbrush—I can’t seem to keep my lips soft, supple, and generally not painfully cracked. It’s something that I’ve been struggling with for as long as I can remember—which is why I was pretty desperate to try anything that friends and colleagues claimed actually worked. (I am not ashamed to say that I have tried Waxelene, Vaseline, and all other leen-alternatives.)
Enter a product that I never would have thought would do the trick: Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips. Stay with me, because I know you just saw the word nipple and are either wholly concerned or were sold immediately (right, Moms?). But for those of you who aren’t as familiar with the concept of nipple balm, let me have the distinct pleasure of introducing you to this cult favorite product of British makeup artists. (And even better? Some of you will receive this product in your February Birchbox!)
