How to Pack and Purge Your Desk: Special Ops

We’re always talking about the staffers in the Birchbox office, but the ones who you interact with everyday are the ladies of our hard-working Ops team. These fabulous femmes handle all of your customer service woes. We wanted to give you a chance to get to know them even better—so here’s a peek at who’s on the other side of the phone.

Birchbox is starting the New Year in a new office! We’re thrilled to be in a new space, but to make the move possible, we had plenty of supplies and memories to sort through first. Weeks ago, the Ops team started a “Pack and Purge” mission to prepare for the big move. Packing? Easy. Purging? Not so much.

As we dug in, we realized that we were taking and tossing items based on our personalities. So whether you’re a pack rat collector, a pared-down minimalist, or a holiday-card hoarding sentimentalist, here’s a quick reference for how to pack (or clean!) your desk.

What’s On the Birchbox Staffer’s Desk: Ops Associate, Kimiko

If you call our customer service team, there’s a good chance the friendly voice on the line belongs to Ops superstar Kimiko. This California native and proud techie showed us the desk essentials that help her power through phone calls and emails with amazing grace.

1. Cards, gifts, and mementos from friends: My favorite things on my desk are pictures, cards, and knickknacks from my best friends and favorite shows and events.

2. Rdio: I prefer rdio to Spotify (I’ll have this debate with anyone, anyday). I can’t be without my music collection at my fingertips at all time, and of course all my favorites are synced up to my iPhone on my rdio app!

Nam Vo Stops By, Dissects My Desk

Our favorite makeup artist, the inimitable Nam Vo, stopped by this afternoon. Not only did she come bearing red velvet twinkies from Lulu Cake (unreal), but she also gave us a few impromptu makeup tips. To Meredith: “Remember, your eyebrows are sisters, not twins. Let them each have their own shape.” She also rummaged through all the various products on my desk and picked out her favorites.

YSL Rouge Volupte Provocative Pink: I love this. It’s a hot tamale.

Buxom Stay-There Eyeshadow in Golden Retriever: This is so pigmented. The gilded bronze is perfect for hazel and green eyes.

Ling Skincare Ginseng Therapy Moisture Mask: I go to Carol at Ling’s for my facials. She does all the models and she’s amaaaazing.

By Terry Gloss Delectation in Mandarina: Full pigment - this is beautiful. I’d wear this with a wash of champagne shadow on my eyelid - very springy, summer.

Pangea Balancing Oil: When I was younger I would always look for things that were oil-free. Now that I’m a little bit older I’m all about oils. So good for your skin!

Dr. Gross All-in-One Cleanser with Toner:  My roommate actually works for Dr. Gross so I get to try everything — so lucky. This is my favorite face wash because it’s gentle and makes my skin feel moisturized after.
