Rescue Summer-Ravaged Feet with a DIY Pedicure

I’ve spent the past few months prancing around in my slimmest sandals. While all this prancing has been wonderful for parading around my sandal collection, the constant exposure to the elements left my feet in bad shape. To cure my rough callouses, dry skin, and aching arches, I decided to try an at-home pedicure. Here’s my guide to treating your tootsies to a little TLC.

1. Get splashy in a foot bath. Fill a large bowl or your bathtub with enough warm water to reach your ankles. Add a few drops of essential oil, and soak your feet for five to ten minutes. I recommend NUXE’s Multi-Usage Dry Oil, which is packed with essential oils that soften rough skin.

Five Shades I’ll Be Wearing on My Nails All Summer: Guest Blogger

A self-proclaimed beauty addict and over-the-top girly girl, Lara Ramos has been dedicated to living a pretty lifestyle since birth. Her blog, The Glossarie, highlights ground-breaking beauty products and little laid-back luxuries. This week, in Lara’s second appearance as a guest blogger, she shares the newest items that have caught her eye and her personal must-haves.

As a beauty blogger, I go through a lot of nail polish. With all of the shades that come across my desk, there are a handful of formulas that have risen to the top for me in terms of performance. Here are five of my favorite brands and their best shades for summer (some old flames, and some new kids on the block).

From pinky to thumb:
Sheswai Lacquer in Honey Fox: I am obsessed with this red for fingers and toes, it always looks great.

Deborah Lippmann Dancing in the Sheets: I know this one is a bit dark, but I love navy in the summer!

Guest Blogger: Top 5 Fall Beauty Trends

A style force to be reckoned with, Sara Zucker is well known for providing daily outfit inspiration and scoping out incredible finds via her Tumblr, Farpitzs (which is the Yiddish word for ‘all dressed up,’ just in case you were curious). As if being one of the most popular fashion voices in the blogosphere wasn’t time consuming enough, the well-heeled trendsetter also happens to be Glamour magazine’s community manager. Lucky for us, she was able to make some time in her busy schedule to guest blog for us this week. Check back daily as Zucker shares everything from her favorite fall trends to what’s in her cosmetics bag.

 1.  Deborah Lippman in Don’t Tell Mama, $16, 2. Sue Devitt Eye Intensifier Pencil, $22, 3. Phyto 7 Daily Hair Mask, $26, 4. Lavanila The Healthy Body Butter in Vanilla Coconut, $25, 5. Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencil in Crime, $18,

Sure, it’s 90 degrees outside, but stores are beginning to put fall merchandise into full view. It is so strange to be pulling on tank tops and tiny shorts to avoid sweating on the subway and then suddenly, it’s time to start thinking about next season! By September, I have finally come to grips with the inevitable cooler temperatures and when the foliage starts to change, so does my beauty routine. I reflect the chillier weather in the nail colors that I wear by veering toward shimmery jewel tones like plum, emerald, and navy blue. And since my wardrobe perpetually borders on neutral overload, a deep saturated lip color is the perfect way to add brightness to any gray, black, tan, or ivory look I create.

Another major necessity for fall? A berry-hued cheek stain like RMS Beauty’s Lip2Cheek in Promise

Guest Blogger: Product Girl’s Tips for Perfect Summer Nails

Founded in 2005 by beauty junkie Carla Maganinho, Product Girl is an outlet for her to discuss her favorite finds. Over the years, the site has gained a loyal following — and even another staffer, Laurie Leopold. Together the blogging duo cover everything from the latest launches to their recent splurges. This week, these ladies-in-the-know are guest blogging for us about all things summer!

Summer is no time to be color-shy, especially when it comes to nails. In fact, sporting something bold on your tips is the easiest way to inject a splash of color into your beauty routine. We’ve got our top picks for summer polish, as well as our favorite new tool to maintain our nail beds.

Every season, we look to celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann for nail guidance. She creates amazing colors (with the best names!) and her polishes are always of the highest quality. We plan on rotating between the coral Girls Just Want to Have Fun and deep periwinkle I Know What Boys Like all summer long.

Another color collection that has made our VIP list is Essie’s Braziliant. The namesake of the collection is a shimmery hot orange that we plan to wear on our toes pretty much every day this summer.

Add the Revlon Crazy Shine to your next Target shopping list. This VIP beauty tool is a must for nail grooming. It doesn’t strip the nail like some buffers do, rather it smoothes  and gives, well, just the craziest shine. And, you can even use it over polish to revive a dull manicure!

For a safe and effective polish remover, Zoya is our top pick - available in our Birchbox Shop.

A Week of Nail Art: The Birchbox Beauty Diaries

A Week Of: Awesomely cool nail art (a.k.a. Birchbox’s obsession)

Monday: Essie in Turning Heads Red ($8.00), Butter London Matte Finish Topcoat ($14.40), Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Blazing Blue ($1.49)

I felt very patriotic with this red and navy moon mani. I’m already planning to resurrect it for Fourth of July weekend, potentially with a little star detail if I get ambitious. In this case, I had already been wearing the red for a day or two but wanted to spice it up a bit with a matte topcoat and the navy. I used Turning Heads Red by Essie, the Matte Finish Topcoat by Butter London, and Blazing Blue Insta-Dri by Sally Hansen.

Tuesday: Deborah Lippmann Between the Sheets ($17.90) and Daytripper ($16.00)

I’m obsessed with these new shades by Deborah Lippmann, Between the Sheets (purple) and Daytripper (pink). They’re so fun and punchy, I couldn’t resist wearing them together. I did get a few weird comments from people that thought I mistakenly wore two different colors, but I loved it.

Just call me Sparkles

I owe Katia an apology. When we received Deborah Lippman’s sparkletastic nail lacquers in the office I took one look at the glitter party and shook my head. Uh uh. Too many bad memories of ill-conceived 7th grade manicures. But this morning, “Bad Romance” (a Lady Gag inspired aubergine with thick flakes of fuchsia) caught the corner of my eye. I idly opened the bottle and applied a coat to my thumb. And another coat. I was hooked. The color looks like a deep dark purple from afar; it’s only when you look closely that you see the tiny pink sparkles. It’s a nice update on the ubiquitous dark fall nail and, well, I’m in love. As for Katia, she happily put on two coats of the silvery “Today Was a Fairytale” and couldn’t stop waving her shimmery nails at us. Touché.
