A Curly Hair Routine That Prevents Frizz and Defines Curls Once and For All
Staffer Caroline is a frequent source of hair admiration around the office since her natural curls somehow achieve that perfect balance of weightlessness and a total lack of frizz. Luckily, we convinced her to show us exactly what she does each morning to get her curls so defined and lovely. Check out the video below to see her routine and the products she swears by—there’s even a trick in there I’m appropriating for my naturally straight hair!
Caroline isn’t the only one sharing her go-to products: find our Cofounders’ and Editorial Director’s must-haves in the Birchbox Shop.
As a curly-haired girl (okay, maybe more of a wavy-haired girl), I’m always trying products in an attempt to perfect my curls. The search is neverending and with so many formulas for everything from loose waves to tight spirals, it’s understandably difficult to get the right fit. (Don’t even get me started on extra problems like dryness or frizz.) Is it any wonder why I haven’t found my holy-grail product?
Having recently joined Birchbox, I decided to ask my beauty-loving team members for their top suggestions to help my constantly frizzy locks. Here were the standout products they recommended which have now become my new 3-step regimen:
As much as we love a good holiday party (mulled wine! cookies!), we don’t always love the endless prep. Finding an outfit and beauty look for each event is hard enough; wrangling our hair into a cute ‘do can push us over the edge. This week, we’re arming ourselves—and you—with plenty of options. With the help of Number 4 Hair Care’s Jordan Nicole Webb, we’ve put together three holiday hair styles for every skill level.
We’re loving the gorgeous curls that Halle Berry was rocking earlier this week at dinner with her fiance, Oliver Martinez. It’s such a fun departure from the signature close-cropped look that she’s been wearing for the last couple of years. While Berry’s new shoulder-grazing look was actually achieved with extensions, we’re big fans of natural curl, too. Our gorgeous operations manager, Bianca, has been sporting her natural, untreated hair for the last couple weeks, and it’s had everyone in the office buzzing:
Who doesn’t love toast? We sure do, and as much enthusiasm as we have for the delicious complex carbohydrate, we love the blog A Piece of Toast even more. The masterminds behind the beauty amalgamation of covet-worthy products, style inspiration, and yes, yummy food, are sisters Sally Ann and Molly Bernadette. This week, the Molly is graciously bringing her flair to our blog, dishing on everything from the best hair masks to perfect holiday gifts.
I’ve got hair (lots of long, fine-stranded hair) that has never been able to hold a curl or a wave until I met The Bombshell.Made by Sultra, The Bombshell is a clipless curling iron with a one-inch ceramic barrel that you wrap sections of hair around (while wearing a glove). Despite awkward first attempts, you pick up how to use it very quickly and the results are too-good-to-be-true. Depending on the size of hair sections you wrap and how long you hold the hair to the barrel, you can achieve tight curls or looser waves. Even my long hair can get perfect waves that hold all day! And, because the iron is ceramic it gets hot, hot, hot — making the process super fast. I can do all my hair in seven to ten minutes.
If you’re life me and have always dreamed of having pretty waves that hold and are easy to achieve, I would definitely recommend this tool.I use it so often that it’s hard for me to remember what styling my hair was like before it!
