Birchbloggers: Show Us Your Most Impressive DIY Projects!

There’s nothing but excitement here at Birchbox HQ today! We’ve been so happy to share the news with you that we just launched our Home Pop-Up Shop and Limited Edition: Home box. From bamboo spatulas, to truffle salts, to funky cocktail napkins, the box filled with tons of fun entertaining-ready goodies.

Some of the items we’re most excited about are the DIY projects contributed by Erica Domesek and the team at P.S.- I Made This… You can sneak a peek at all the projects, plus the easy-to-follow tutorials on how to make them, over the next five days in a series on our blog. The best part, though? We’re giving you the chance to win a home box plus a P.S.- I Made This book! All you have to do is submit your most impressive DIY to our P.S. I Made This + Birchbox DIY Giveaway

As always, we want to give our Birchbloggers the chance to share a little more. After you’ve entered a photo of your DIY into the contest, share your blog post that explains how you did the project. We’ll choose our favorites and feature them here on the Birchbox blog. (Keep in mind: those projects don’t have to be ones appearing on the blog—your DIY can be anything! Up-cycled Birchboxes, homemade gift wrap, crafty candles… anything!)

Send in your submissions to birchbloggers@birchbox.com by Sunday, December 2nd. We’re looking forward to seeing all your brilliant creations!

Team Intros: Meet Alyssa!

The only thing more unpredictable than Alyssa’s ever-changing hair ‘dos (in her two and a half months with us, she’s gone from hippie chic dreds to a sleek brunette bob) is where she worked before bringing her graphic design prowess to Birchbox. When we heard she came to us from a company specializing in hair dye for…down there…we knew we were going to love her. She’s currently rocking three tattoosthe one you don’t see is on her chest and says “The Lion’s Roar”but she intends to be fully covered in ink eventually. We can’t wait see what’s next!

Name/Title: Alyssa (but you can call me Aly), Graphic Designer

Hometown: Queensbury, NY

Unofficial role: Social Butterfly

Fun fact: I’ve traveled to Spain, China, Thailand, and Japan. I love experiencing different cultures. I think my happiest moment was being on the Great Wall. It was breathtaking.

Beauty confession: I’m a serial hair changer. White blonde pixie cut, black elbow-length curls, fire engine red bob…you name it and I’ve done it. I actually just took my hair out of dreadlocks and this is the longest I’ve had my natural color grow out. I think I like it!

Is it just us, or is it impossible to get out of bed these days? More likely than not, it’s because the weather here has been rainy and chilly—and staying curled up under the covers seems like a much better option than stomping through puddles. But if you must venture outside, you might as well do it in style: think eye-catching umbrellas, bright yellow rain coats, and patent leather pieces.

And once you pick out your outfit, here’s how to combat rainy day hair

Glimmering gold accessories are a quick way to give us a touch of sophistication and add a little luxe to our more basic styles. Not to mention, shimmery gold makeup is one of the hottest new spring trends that we can’t get enough of. (Hint: Keep an eye out for a little glittery gold in some of our May boxes).

It’s that time of year when we’re all itching to head somewhere warm, escape the remainder of winter, and hope that when we return, spring will be in full swing. While some of us are at SXSW, and others of us have sunny plans, there are many of us who don’t have any trips on the calendar. Hopefully these images inspire you to book your next vacay!

Antique Keys: Mood Board

There’s something beautiful and mysterious about old keys. Where did they come from? What did (or do) they lead to? Why do they come in a variety of shapes, sizes and patterns? Most of all, we love what keys represent: the act of unlocking something, whether it be amazing, terrifying, or fulfilling. These tiny objects represent the unknown that lies ahead.

If you’ve been keeping up with the happenings at Birchbox HQ, then you already know we’ve been doing “weekday workouts” for the past few weeks. Every hour on the hour, we’ve been taking a 60-second exercise break and trying everything from squats to planks. It’s so encouraging to see people of all shapes and sizes (even a pregnant employee!) willing to stick together and keep our office healthy. As the creative team, we figured that even though you can’t work out with us, you can at least be inspired to start your own weekday workout!
