As much as we love nail art, we’re better at admiring designs than coming up with them ourselves. That’s why we’ve enlisted Anna Norman, the smarty pants behind Glitter, She Wrote, to be a regular contributor. Every Monday, she’ll be sharing her latest lacquer inspiration—you won’t be satisfied with plain ol’ polish again.
A lot of the latest nail art products on the market are fun and flashy, but pretty impractical for everyday wear. Caviar, sequin, and velvet manis at the office or the gym? I don’t think so. But Ciaté’s ColorFoil kit is a little different…and I’m head over heels for it.
Unlike regular foil flakes that take precision and time, this kit is quick and virtually fool-proof. The results? Colorful metallic nails that will last just as long as an ordinary manicure. Here’s how to get the look:
It’s a scary statistic: one in eight American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. Since October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re supporting the search for a cure by picking up some new beauty products. All this month, many of our favorite brands are donating a portion of their proceeds to breast cancer nonprofits, and you’ll also find limited edition goodies in every shade of pink (a.k.a. our favorite color). We love the idea of looking good and being a do-gooder at the same time. Click through to check out five of our favorite products for the cause!
Based in Washington D.C., Ayren Jackson-Cannady is so savvy that we wished she lived closer to NYC so that we could swap products with her. This beauty writer knows what’s up (she’s written for Fitness, Glamour, and Gloss Daily) and we’re excited to have her sharing her know-how and multi-culti beauty expertise as a contributing editor.
It’s been quite some time since I’ve participated in the whole back to school thing. Yet, this time of the year still brings back a rush of good-feelings, since it reminds me of being a school girl and prepping for my first day of class. While other girls fussed over outfits or debated what sneakers they’d rock, I was always thinking about picking the perfect mascara to make my lashes look longer and fuller than they did last year.
I’m still as much of a beauty dork now as I was then. I’ve been inspired (and a little jealous) of all the students hitting the books, so I compiled a few of the coolest fall beauty trends that we all should try:
Just when we thought we’d seen every kind of nail art, Ciate has debuted a manicure kit that transforms your nails into soft pads of crushed velvet. Yes, the fabric once reserved for plush sofas and Scarlett O’Hara’s green curtain dress has now migrated to your nails. It comes in three shades: light grey, dark blue, and deep purple. We got to try Ciate’s kit this afternoon, and after a few trial and error sessions we mastered the art of the DIY velvet manicure! Click through to learn how it’s done.
Nail art is a Birchbox obsession. One of the first places we look for inspiration is Glitter, She Wrote, Anna Norman’s cheery, imaginative blog, where she shares her gorgeous designs and muses about life in the Big Apple. This week, Anna takes us inside her nail guru world, and will show us how to get gorgeous, DIY art on our fingertips.
They may be small, but that doesn’t mean your nails can’t make a wow-inducing fashion statement. Try one of these fresh, on-trend ideas to add some serious pizzazz on prom night.
The caviar manicure is becoming one of the hottest new nail trends, so it’s a perfect choice for prom-bound fashionistas. Tiny “pearls” stick to wet nail polish to create a fashion-forward 3D effect. UK brand Ciaté will begin selling its Caviar Manicure Kit in three colors (rainbow, black pearls, and mother of pearl) at Sephora next month. For an inexpensive D.I.Y. version, pick up some microbeads at your local craft store and sprinkle them over wet polish. You wouldn’t wait until prom day to try on your dress for the first time, so I suggest giving these nails a trial run before the big day, too.
