My Favorite Beauty Discoveries: Birchbox Intern Diaries
I’m very sad to announce that this will be the last video in my Birchbox Intern Diaries series. I’m finishing up my internship here and graduating from college this week. On a happier note, next month I’ll be continuing my education by attending makeup artistry school and will become a contributing vlogger for Birchbox!
Be sure to check back next month for more videos, but in the meantime, watch below to find out some of my favorite beauty discoveries from my time here.
How To Get Nina Dobrev’s Makeup from the Met Gala: Birchbox Intern Diaries
On Tuesday morning, over office was buzzing with chatter about one of the biggest fashion events of the year: the Met Gala. After fervently discussing and voting on our favorite celebrity looks from the evening, we decided that our favorite interpretations of the punk theme involved very dramatic eye makeup and well-crafted updos.
This week on the Birchbox Intern Diaries, I wanted to recreate my pick for look of the night worn by Vampire Diaries star, Nina Dobrev. While her dramatic cat eye isn’t a day look I would normally wear, it was fun to experiment with something further away from my normal neutral colors. Watch to learn how to get the look for yourself!
What was your favorite style from the evening? Let us know in the comments!
For any who received their April Women’s Health Birchbox, you know that this past month has been all about tiny tweaks, big results. In honor of that, our video intern, Charisse, is focusing on improving small things in her daily routine. She’ll be sharing the results with all of you, of course! For her final tweak, Charisse changed up her snacking habits.
Week Four: Disconnect
After making tiny tweaks to my fitness, beauty, and snacking routines, I had just one bad habit arena left to conquer: disconnecting from my phone and TV. No matter where I am, I always have my phone on me; and as far as TV goes, well let’s just say that if it’s a TV show on the air, I’m watching it. So this week, I made it a priority to put my phone down, pick up a book, and disconnect for a little while.
DIY Paperclip Necklace: Birchbox Video of the Week
There are so many amazing videos on YouTube, we have a hard time keeping up with all of them. You name it, there’s a video about it. Wondering how to turn flat, limp strands into sexy supermodel hair? There’s a video for that. Always wanted to see what a moonwalking pony would look like? There’s a video for that. That’s why we’ve decided to choose one video a week to share with you. Keep reading for this week’s pick.
While we love pretty DIY jewelry, sometimes the the multi-step process of putting a piece together seems overwhelmingly complicated. So when we came across this unbelievably easy necklace tutorial, we were happy to see that we only needed colored tape and paper clips to make this eye-catching piece. If you’re looking to add some pop to an outfit sans breaking the bank, watch and learn how to make your own bright necklace below.

Week Three: Snacking Habits
Though my official title here at Birchbox is Editorial and Video Intern, my unofficial title is Queen of Snacking. As a lifelong fan of Nutella and pretzels, I love sweet and salty things. Let it be known that I also occasionally indulge in a scoop or two of ice cream—and by occasionally, I mean every night. This week, I rose to the challenge of changing my food habits by switching out the snacks and drinking more water.
Easy Braided Top Knot Tutorial: Birchbox Intern Diaries
As the temperatures outside start to heat up, it gets harder to wear my hair down so lately I’ve been on the lookout for cute ponytail or bun hairstyles. Right now, one of my favorite looks is this large bun with a braid, which I can wear with almost any outfit. Watch my video tutorial below to learn how to create your own braided bun.
A Prom-Inspired Makeup Tutorial: Birchbox Intern Diaries
We’ve been taking a walk down memory lane here in the Birchbox office, recalling the best and worst looks from that momentous event—Prom. So for the latest installment of Birchbox Intern Diaries, I decided to recreate the makeup I wore for that special high school night. Instead of doing a smoky eye with silver shimmer (it was so popular back then), I updated the look with a pretty pop of lavender and added a bit of drama. Watch the video above to see how to get this spring-ready style that’s perfect for The Big Dance.
And before you go, tell us all about the look you’ll be wearing to prom (or the look you wore) in the comments below!

Week Two: Beauty Routine
When I’m asked how long it takes me to get ready in the morning, my answer of two hours usually triggers a Liz Lemon-inspired "What the what?!" Taking a cue from these responses, I decided that this week would be the perfect time to make some tweaks to my beauty routine. Let me preface by saying that my two hour routine is something I truly enjoy. While it may seem excessive, I love having a leisurely morning without feeling rushed—but I will admit that I could use some more shut-eye. Read on to learn how I streamlined my routine!
(Clockwise from top left: smoky, finding your crease, a bright pop, all over color and tightlining.)Toss that skinny liner in your makeup bag and make room for the extra-versatile chubby.
When it comes to eye pencils, the general idea is to use the product to line the upper and lower lash lines, giving definition to the eye. But while most of us are comfortable using a skinnier liner to achieve any number of looks, there’s a whole wide world of chubby pencils out there that are every bit as versatile and sometimes more fun to use than what you’re used to.
It might seem like these wider options are just, well, a thicker version of what you know, but we’re here to tell you that there are a whole slew of fun news techniques you can use to get different looks with these creamy shades. Take a peek below to find out our five favorite new ways to use a chubby pencil:
