Nothing spruces up a space faster than a candle. Amp up the cute factor on your basic tealight by decorating glass votives with patterned tape and coordinate different styles to add even more pop. Here’s how:
Once a week, Birchbox’s resident yoga and men’s product expert, Eric, will gives us girls some insight into his world in You’ve Got Male. Whether he’s giving his expertise on skincare (boys need advice, too!) or highlighting his new favorite grooming trend, this guy has got taste—so we’re lucky he’s on staff and willing to share.
I’m a big candle person. I think having a nice candle burning can immediately improve the atmosphere in a room. I know that many guys shy away from candles, as many might smell too flowery or girly for their tastes. Tocca Beauty is one of my absolute favorite brands for fragrance, however most of their scents are quite feminine. They do have two candles though that are very masculine without being too heavy and both can always be found in my apartment.
Tocca 007: This is my favorite candle of all time. Tocca is known for classic, light fragrances that are reminiscent of bygone times, but they’re always infused with something fun and unexpected. 007 smells of leather and gin martinis and is intended to be burned in the living room (although I have mine in my bedroom and really love it there, too!). I have smelled other leather-infused candles and they are always overbearing and too heavy. 007 is nicely present, but still subtle and very luxurious.
Tocca Montauk (pictured above): Inspired by The Hamptons in Eastern Long Island, which is where I have spent summers since I was a kid, this candle smells of fresh salty air and sea grass. When I burn this, the room immediately smells fresh and my senses somehow come more alive. This scent is light and airy while still being sharp enough to whisk you away to a summer beach retreat (at least in your mind).
A helpful tip for burning candles: Always trim the wick to a 1/4 inch before you burn it to prevent the flame from getting too hot and creating a tunnel down the center of the candle.
