Nothing gets us giddy like a good wedding. Katelyn Koepke Lewis, one of our lovely freelance writers, got hitched this October and we couldn’t resist asking her to share her bridal wisdom. The former PR maven and J-school grad recently went back to her editorial roots, working as a feature writer and editor for Be U Weddings, a Chicago-based blogazine. This week, Katelyn’s sharing her newlywed advice, from bridal beauty tricks that you can use post-wedding to how to pick hostess gifts for your new in-laws.

On October 27, 2012, I reached a major life milestone and had a beauty breakthrough. First and foremost, I married the man of my dreams—and thanks to the talented Brian Sutherby in Chicago, I had classically romantic, best-version-of-myself makeup—and learned quite a bit from it. While the wonderful world of airbrushed foundation can’t be stressed enough (it will change your life), I discovered a few more attainable take-home tips. Here’s how to take makeup from your big day and use it in your daily life:

While “to spritz, or not to spritz?” will likely be a question on your big day, there’s a bigger, more important one to think about: will the perfume you spray on your wedding day be a brand new scent? Or an old standby?

Equine inspiration is the latest craze in weddings and the more horses we see, the more we contemplate the state of our own flowing mane. Winter is slowly approaching, which means dehydrated strands will quickly follow. Keep your hair healthy and conditioned with a weekly masque or special treatment. We’re big fans of Ojon’s Damage Reverse. Since you shampoo it out after 20 minutes of application, there’s no oily residue left behind. Only super smooth, glossy locks!

Make sure you’re flashing your best rear view by following our simple steps to a beautiful backside (and maybe grab a friend to help).

Wedding season is officially upon us! This summer marks my first wedding anniversary, and as an ex-bride, I’m here to give all of you girls the dirty little secrets about how to make it through the craziness of a wedding. Stay tuned all week long as I spout tips to brides and bridesmaids alike!
Up first: what to do if you JUST got engaged. Obviously, you’ll need to update your Facebook status, upload pics of your rock, and do all of the other standard communications…but, then what? Here are a few places to start:
First thing’s first: read up on Birchbox’s very own Bridal Beauty Game Plan. It’s a lifesaver! In fact, I would even recommend printing it out and taping it on your bathroom mirror so you never forget a thing.

Over the past year, it seems like all of our friends have gone and gotten engaged. And even though their weddings are way in the future, a lot has to happen in between now and then (save the dates, party planning, cake testing). We created our limited edition Here Comes the Bride box for all our betrothed friends — it’s filled with beauty and lifestyle treats to use right up until the big day. We also put together a mini-mag of bridal beauty stories, including modern hairstyles you can do yourself, a Q&A with celebrity wedding planner Yifat Oren, and the best celebrity bride looks.
