Breast Cancer and Me: Guest Blogger

One of our favorite things about Melissa “Mellie” Davis’ blog, The Fat Apple, NYC, is its tagline: “Doing NYC in Plus Size Style.” Davis, a New York-based fashion insider, has her finger on the pulse of and trends—from the Food Network’s Wine & Food festival to the hottest new plus size lines. Best of all, she always finds a way to make gorgeous style for curvy ladies both easy and fun.

October signifies many things to many people: Halloween, pumpkins, fall clothing, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For me, Breast Cancer Awareness is a bittersweet part of the year. My sister had breast cancer. It’s hard to write that, mainly because I use the past tense to refer to her. She was diagnosed early in life and lost her battle very soon after. While there’s pain there, there’s also hope.

I’ve been able to see her two daughters grow up to be amazing women who have many opportunities for greatness. I’ve also seen brands and companies join forces with foundations like The Breast Cancer Research Fund, American Cancer Society, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure that are working to find a way to eradicate this disease. Here are just a few of the (stylish) ways that you can support breast cancer research and help save lives.

As you know, we’re pretty keen on pink all year round—it is our signature color, after all. But celebrating pink during October is especially dear to us because it represents so much more. Enjoy the images above and then show your support by giving to a BCA organization of your choice or by shopping these products that donate a portion of their proceeds to various charities

5 Beauty Products that Help Support Breast Cancer Research

It’s a scary statistic: one in eight American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. Since October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re supporting the search for a cure by picking up some new beauty products. All this month, many of our favorite brands are donating a portion of their proceeds to breast cancer nonprofits, and you’ll also find limited edition goodies in every shade of pink (a.k.a. our favorite color). We love the idea of looking good and being a do-gooder at the same time. Click through to check out five of our favorite products for the cause!
